How is this VR?
I want to know how you can get away with having a VR tag when there is no way to play the game in VR. There is no controller support at all in VR and are unable to use the keyboard and mouse?! Spent over 6 hours trying to get this P.O.S. to work and can't even get a refund now. So it would be great if this wasn't completely falsely advertised as a VR game with full controller support and I'm just missing something.

The game works in VR with full gamepad controller support. Tested on a Meta Quest 2 with an official Xbox gamepad. It works with the keyboard and mouse too, but VR is better with the controller.

It does not support VR motion controllers, it clearly has the image of a gamepad controller and does not have the tag for VR controllers.

This means the game is visual-VR (stereoscopic 3D with head-tracking) only. Not tactile-VR. It tracks your head movements but you can't use your hands. People forget that VR actually just refers to the headset itself, the neat motion controllers came years after initial headset designs.

Thank you this helped me understand the issue, I didnt know that there was a difference in the vr compatibility like ones that could use controllers and ones that still relied on other controllers like you referenced. I will need to look more into what you mean by gamepad though.

by gamepad he means any standard input controller, things like xbox controller, or ps4 controller etc. however i would be aware that because of the type of game that subnautica is, can induce some pretty extreme motion sickness. This has been the primary reason that i have avoided VR, aside from the high entry price.

Nope,
Valve Index Steam controller, Useless in VR cannot reset bindings or interact at all with anything other than going forward or backward in menu (so you can start a game in the menu and that is all) NO KEYBOARD FUNCTION OR MOUSE AT ALL!

Steam has removed the descriptions of vr games, you can add post to the topic of the petition to restore them.

With the old descriptions it was clear that this is a game without vr hands, and you play xbox pad.

This is one of two no vr hands games worth attention.

In addition, recently there was an update that messed with vr. Maybe you should select the legacy version in the beta tab.

The game is very enjoyable in vr, if you still have the health to try to get through the initial difficulties.

edit:
The controller must be turned on before you start the game.

Sounds like an issue with the Index's controllers overriding the keyboard and mouse. Have you tried disabling them somehow?

Finally someone who's not a moron. I cannot find any option to do it I have been thinking the same thing that it's the index not allowing it to work somehow. I am digging into it but it's a pain. I'll update for sure when I figure it out.

If you have a Steam gamepad you have to setup all the controls through the gamepad system to operate during Subnauticas runtime. (There are community templates available)
YOU CANNOT CHANGE ANY CONTROLLER SETTINGS IN GAME, NOT FULL CONTROLLER SUPPORT! Discussion CLOSED!

I have the Index as well, I can use my keyboard in-game, to move about and that, the only issue I had was navigating the game menu, I had to position my mouse to a certain place to then be able to click on the selected option.

I've not tried a gamepad yet, I might try this tomorrow if I cba, as this kind of stressed me a little lol
