PSA: Bladderfish
If you eat raw Bladderfish, they actually give you about fifteen seconds of Oxygen. This can save your life in a pinch. I recommend always keeping a Bladderfish on you, especially if you have a Thermal Knife, since that can always drop the fish and then cook it to get food and water as well, meaning having one on hand can save you in most emergencies.

To give you an idea on such power, I used a High-Capacity Tank, a Seaglide, two filtered waters, a medkit, and about twenty bladder to speedrun from the surface, through the Blood Kelp Trench into the Lost River all the way down to the Inactive Lava Zone taking a break at the Alien Thermal Plant before making my way into the Active Lava Zone and finishing at the Primary Conatainment Facility. I managed to disable the Quarantine Enforcement Platform long before the countdown for the Sunbeam had started, giving me special dialogue when they were supposed to land. All thanks to the power of a ♥♥♥♥ ton of Bladderfish.

TLDR: Bladderfish gives you O2 when eaten raw.

Heh....I did NOT know that.....and I've played this thru about 5...ish times now. Never even tried eating a raw bladderfish....just cuz it sounds pretty gross, lol. Cool. Only way I ever beat the countdown was by cheating and I only ever did it once....just for the special dialogue sequence......didn't actually finish that play-thru cuz I had really messed up the fun of going through the proper story-line in the process......and, I started over again.

If you decide to try with Bladderfish, make sure you bring water with you, as raw Bladderfish will take a little of your water. It's not bad normally, but eating 15+ in one go will dry you like a raisin.

That's ok....I've already spent so much time in the water, I look like a prune anyway, lol.

It tells you this info in the Bladderfish description where it tells you its edible. Reading pays off sometimes :)

Yeah....guilty as charged...I tend to 'skim' over the reading in games.....partly cuz I'm half blind and partly cuz I didn't care much about the quirks of a fish. Did read enough to know you could make filtered water and the bouyancy thing out of them, lol.

You can save a lot of inventory space just by crafting a second Ultra High-Capacity Tank.

Also, you can make it from the surface to the Thermal Plant using a single tank if you take the Bulb Zone entrance. That's a lot shorter than the Blood Kelp Trench.

But I do agree, using Bladderfish for air is a cool thing. That actually saved me several times in Below Zero, where it works as well.

They are a basic necessity on my Randomiser runs many times. As I often can't fabricate tanks early.

I didn't know that worked! I'll keep this in mind if I ever decide to do this again.

This is my second playthrough, so I'm still not the most familiar with the map. my base last playthrough was located close to the trench, so I went there as I'm familiar with the area and the part of theLost River.

Are you sure you meant to say Below Zero? Cause oxygen plants are everywhere there.

I havent found the need to ever make out with a Bladder Fish to get air in that game. Because of the abundance of conviniently placed oxygen plants and/or giant holefish in every location.

Only time i suffocated was cause i got mezzed by a lilipadder while low on oxygen and couldn't find my way back to nearby seatruck cause marker got all screwed up while i was mezzed.

Well....that's a 'no-brain-er' lol. Yeah, that's one of the first survival tactics for air I had found. I use those all the time. And, if you've explored the map enough, you'll realize there's usually one somewhere to be found near a place you need to dive deeper to explore......almost like the Dev's planned it that way....hmm.

Wait, special dialogue? I thought Sunbeam got blown up regardless?

When you disable the alien BFG before Sunbeam arrives. They just say there is too much debris in orbit to safely land and they fly away

I just want to say to anyone who wants to try to disable the weapon before the Sunbeam arrives to NOT do it during the countdown, as the timer will NEVER go away. Currently I'm on about -4 hours before they arrive.
admiral1018 11 ENE 2023 a las 15:44
If you want the alternate Sunbeam message without needing the rush the game, the easiest way to do that is just not to repair the radio (or to ignore all the messages). So long as you don't start the Sunbeam sequence via the radio, you can take your time.
