xbox controller help

I just recently got an xbox controller and I play on my laptop , my controller is compatible with my laptop just fine, but when I open subnautica and try to play my controls are completely horrible, I can't look up or down and moving around only works side to side from the way the default is set up. Which would be fine because obviously I can change the settings. However when I go into settings and go to change how the controller works, the settings don't stick. I am so frustrated at it, subnautica is one of my favorite games and I want to play with a controller because i know it will be easier for me. Have any of you had this problem ? Can I fix it or do I have to submit a bug issue for this. Please help me

Not that it is to any help but you are not the only one, I have just bought the game and have the same issue..

As a controller user, i think i had the same problem as you guys.
When i turned xbox controls on, everything was really jittery and i couldnt do anything.
All it took was a bit of messing with the controls to get it to stop, so i really dont know what i did,
Controller works perfect for me now.

still not solved! I can't even get the keys (a, b, x, y= to do anything... so frustrating! I never even got to play. I'm uninstalling, as it's unplayable...

I had the same issue with my Xbox one controller not responding and it was resolved by unplugging my Logitech wheel, there might be an issue with other peripherals interfering.

Thanks, but I don't have anything else plugged in. I've tried everything. I give up...

This game use to work perfect with the PS4 controller but now no controller works properly.

Is no one else having issues?

The problems with controllers came when Steam decided to interfere and added controller settings into the client. Now there's like 3 places you have to configure your controller....Steam settings--controller. Game properties (R-click SN in steam library)--controller. And, in the game menu--keybinds / controller settings. On top of this, MS thought it would be such a great idea to add Xbox into Windows 10 so, now you have that dams Xbox Gamebar you need to check settings in--or do like me and wipe that crap out of Win10 using Windows PowerShell commands.

I'm on mac, but also having issues... all other games have no issues

i'm on mac and i've been through all settings that steam installed only for it to not solve anything at all. i really feel like the main problem lies in the keybinds but i've tried everything to turn it off and regardless of what i try they reset the moment i leave the menu

Usually, if you have the issue of keybinds resetting after leaving the menu.....this happens when there are more than one file dictating keybinds......or, there's a file's permission issue and the game isn't allowed to make changes to the file so it doesn't actually save the changes.
If it's the case of more than one file dictating settings, you'll need to manually go into the games directories and user's directories to find both files and edit them manually.
If it's a problem where file permissions are the issue, be sure those files are not set to 'read-only' or whatever it might be calling it in a MAC operating system.
Those are my ideas based on my knowledge with Windows and there maybe more to it with a MAC....I'm not sure. Good luck.
