I can't say for certain that I was at or near full health, but I was fine... and then I was unalive. Never even saw what bit me, but given the area I was in I would hazard a guess that it was a biter or a stalker... if it was anything at all.
My suspicion is that there's a glitch that occurs when you regen your health back to full without using a medkit; some kind of value wraparound thing.
I've also encountered an incorporeal black cube after zapping an oculus with the thermoblade (in the jellyshroom caverns, obviously)... never did find the cooked fish, so I'm guessing those might be related.
TL;DR: the game's still got some bugs; it is what it is, until the devs decide it's not.
This is what happens when you put a skeleton crew to fixing bugs in a 4 year old game that was never fully released in a complete state to begin with. It's like trying to get a child to clean their room properly, or wash the dishes right, or take the trash out without dragging the bag along the ground. Cutting corners and placing band aids on problems instead of solving them. Sweeping issues under the rug, and out right ignoring others.
My estatic enthusiasm for the 2.0 update sours every time I load the game back up, for as joyous as somethings like Running with tools, the new fixed Seaglide interface, and large room are, the other side of the coin introduces new grievances that I'm not sure make it worth.
I'm having to tell friends reluctantly that various issues that have kept them from buying or playing the game still exist.
