How do heat signatures work? [maybe spoiler]
I found the abandoned seabase in the jellyshroom cave and recovered what I think are all the PDAs. Should the signature disappear? Or am I missing something to clear the signal?

You picked up a "signal" item (looks like a computer chip in your inventory, generally looks like a white cross placeholder in the open).

The two little slots above your shoulders on your equipment paper doll are for signals and other personal slotted stuff like the compas and thermometer. So there should be a "Signal: heat signature" or whatever your beacon indicator is called, that got auto equipped to you there.

If it helps, I didn't quite realize this until it was time to equip my compass and realized "Oh, I have two signals equipped. That's why I see those two things constantly"

Speaking of. Right now the scanner room is both nearly useless, AND buggy as hell (it removes all the sounds from wildlife while it's built, wut). So don't bother with that scanner room HUD upgrade.

Thanks - I have the signal locator installed on my paper doll, which is how I found the abandoned sea base. Is the "heat signature" signal itself supposed to disappear now that I found the base?
No. The signature will stay in your HUD. Just remove it from the slot on the paper doll and stash it in a locker. That will do the trick.

If it's a heat signature, it is probably pointing you towards the lava vents in the cave.

Did you find them?

Ah ok. I thought I read the heat signatures were signals to encourage the player to explore the map... Figured once I found the thing it would then stop. I found a couple lava shafts yep.
You can remove it then. The lava vents were the objective of that particular signal. There are quite a few more dotted around the place ..... usually in supply crates by the Aurora.

Off the top of my head, there are signals for large organic masses, heat signatures, possible cave openings, and land masses.

Have fun exploring.

Why are there PDA's scattered throughout the base? There's one i can't get. Does anything occur when they are all collected? what's the point?

I don't know if anything happens, (I doubt it) but the point is to learn more about what happened to other survivors.

What button to read the PDA's? I can't find them in my inventory. Playing in VR si I'm missing the notifications at the edges of the screens.

The story and lore from the Abandoned PDA's you find is accessed in your character's PDA, in the Data Bank section ((last tab, where the encyclopedia info is found, under the Data Downloads section).

Sorry, can't help with the VR issue. Check the Bugs, Crashes & Other Horror subforum to see if there are other reports of the same issue, and if anyone has posted a fix or workaround for it.
