It's not gameplay designed around 1st-person POV experiences like the low-res trolls waving crap in your face like in that new VR RPG I keep seeing on Steam or anything. Think of this as a movie with decent 3D (i.e., VR) support, but totally still worth seeing and very enjoyable in standard IMAX or even just plain Widescreen.
Interesting comparison. :)
I always have the option of redund, so that's on my side.
The game is great, monitor or VR.
Vr is new, just cos a game says it does VR does not mean you HAVE to play it with VR , sure if you see a game that made for VR then thats something else, but just cos a game has VR in it, don't be afraid to buy it.
Obviously I'm aware that the game wasn't MADE for VR, but they had mentioned early in development that VR was in their scope. I was unsure if it had continued to be this way, and it seems to me they released it optimized, well designed but for the PC experience in mind.
Thanks for the responses
I always saw VR as an additional option, rather than a core part of the game.
This is a personal opinion, but I feel Subnautica is one of the best (if not the best) open world survival game out there. VR or not, this game is a true gem - well worth picking up.
The good Vive experiences need to be built from the ground up and make full use of the room scale tech. Anything else is just trading mouselook for head-tracking.
Room scale controls aren't strictly needed unless the game is built for it. Sitting comfortable in one place is what we're already used to. Although the use of 2 controllers wouldn't be bad, I'm more than happy with mouse and keyboard.
