Is the life pod supposed to move?
So bought this game quite a while ago but just playing it now, still fairly early in just curious if the lifepod you start with is supposed to move at some point? Just started the beginnings of my first base, went off to gather some supplies and now apparently my lifepod is halfway across the ocean...is that supposed to happen?

This is a bug. We're still trying to find & fix it, as the code looks correct. Any reproduction steps would be useful if anyone has any! :D:

@Obraxis- it seems random, the times I have had it occur I can't recall any consistent steps to reporduce this. However, I wonder if it may be related to the spawn point in the Safe Shallows? I can recall 2 occasions where this occurred, when I spawned beside the Thermal Vent. Left for the first resource gathering run, and came back to find my Pod off the Map on the opposite side of the Aurora. Sorry, I do not recall if the other times it happened, I had spawned at the same spot or not.

I've noticed the pod moving "inexplicably" as well whenever the spawn is near the thermal vent, or whenever the spawn is near a large group of gasopods. It seems that the vent and the gasopods alike can push the damaged pod like the player can push the mobile vehicle construction platform. Best suggestion I can think of to fix it is make an exception in the spawning location rules that make it so that you can't spawn within x distance of the thermal vent and that gasopods/larger fish can't spawn near within x distance of the pod. Though neither suggestion is something that would be easily implemented if it is even possible.

I've managed to strand it on a foundation in some of the near surface ridges in the safe zone before... though it seems to not like this as it's constantly vibrating, and once I re-loaded the world it slung itself about a mile into the sky and fell a fair distance away from where it originally had been on that foundation. Damndest thing I've seen in a long time.

This bug occured to me but I don't think it's related to something I did :
- Repaired the pod
- Went out to gather some stuff
- Figured that the communication can be used : Using it
- Craft some stuff ( building a base )
- Gather some stuff hanging around for like 1 hour outside pod just to build my base and exploration
- Night's coming
- Decide to place my stuff in the pod
- Went to the pod
- Searching for the base but my pod had already moved I had a hard time finding were my base was hopefully you invented crazy stuff to make points in the water :D

I would like to notice you another bug :
If you place the floating chest in the LP then the LP is going to go at the water level ( ~0 meters ) and if you place it on the edge still inside then you can make the LP to incline I needed another chest placed at the opposite to stabilise it and make it flat again ^^

My pod just moved by like half a kilometer whenever I left it out of sight - my best educated guess is that whenever it despawns/respawns, physics applied on the water surface, the mass of the pod or a bad spawning calculation causes it to fly off somewhere. It would seem consistent with what the others are saying.

By "moved" do you mean pushed around or sorted been placed somewhere else without you (or anything) being the displacer?

i had this happening in my first game lol, i went to explore the ship after it exploded in my brand new radiation suit, then once i explored the ship, happy with all the goodies i found i started making my way back to the lifepod, however no matter how far i swum my lifepod never got closer, it just remained a small dot in the far distance. i noticed how the water got deeper and deeper bellow me and turned into a dark black abyss. as the spaceship behind me got smaller and smaller till it got out of render distance i was overcome with fear and hopelessness.

then i simply gave up on life, knowing i could not survive even if i managed to find my lifepod back again.
/end of sad story

my second playtrough is going a lot better though, i made a little base so now i dont care about the lifepod anymore lol

edit: one thing that may have caused the lifepod to float of is the fact that i put a whole bunch of storage deployables on the floor inside the pod. it actually made the pod so heavy that it was partially flooded with water and no longer sitting straight. that + maybe a fish crashing into it triggered it? before it happened i also noticed 2 out of 5 storage containers despawned for some reason

Mobile lifepod has happened in every one of my playthroughs so far. Although I have yet to find it "halfway across the ocean" as some people have descibed. Usually it just moves a little bit and I don't even notice until I'm trying to craft things and I'm suddenly intersecting the ladder. LoL :)

Yeah, I have had that odd "drifting" inside my Pod on a few occasions, where my POV camera has everything in the Pod drift across the screen, and I find myself on the other side of the Pod without ever using WASD or touching my mouse. And when I climb the ladder to look around from the top of the Pod, it seems to have drifted a small distance.

I now create 4 Pipes and lay one on each side of my Pod on the outside, first thing, first day. That seems to hold the Pod in pace, whether I have repaired the panel or not.And if my Pod has spawned right on top of or next to Gasopods, I push the Pod to a safer location before laying the Pipes and repairing the anel. Gasopod fart bombs seem to be able to damage the Pod, so I don't like having them close to it while I am still gathering what I need to make my first base so I can eventually abadon the Pod if I choose to. Having it stay in place for a bit is nice thogh, so I can use the fabricator and med kit fabber on it to fabricate at night, and get free medkits until I can make a med kit fabber at my base.

But that is my playstyle and mileage may vary.

My life pod moved off a bit, over the sparse reef almost, then it just teleported waaaayyy over the abyss, the signal stayed, but I could never get far enough to find it.

Yeah, same here. The pipes were actually the first way in which I knew it was moving. On my second survival game after the patch before the power nap one I had a string of pipes going down to the floor of a kelp forest. After a long stint down there dodging stalkers and collection resources I came up to notice the pod was pretty far from my pipeline. I probably wouldn't have even noticed otherwise, tbh. LoL :)
