While we're on the subject, does anybody know if Stalkers will take cured or cooked fish? I know "dead" ones work, but I've been keeping a "bait" locker of live ones for the purpose of safety while farming teeth and if I can just used the cured ones I've stored for food, that would be nice.
Why not scrap metal that's laying about everywhere? If you want their teeth, then that's what you feed them.
But yeah, cured food doesn't rot, and it's salt of course, so you get more thirsty from eating it.
I meant that I keep them on hand to protect myself when I swim near them to give them the scrap. They used to take scrap from your hand, but now they only pick it up from the world; you have to drop it. They just bite you if you wave scrap in their face from your hand. They should really swap the code for putting scrap on your hotbar with some that lets you do that for medkits instead, since there's really no purpose to "wielding" scrap anymore.
If you've a fish in-hand (in hotbar and equipped), Stalkers will make like they're attacking you (aggro roar and everything), and come at you mouth wide. But instead of dealing damage you just have one fish removed from your inventory, then they become passive toward you for about 1 in-game day, give or take. They WILL take more fish in that time if you swim near them with one out, because they're greedy, but that's not neccessary to avoid being bitten. They'll take food, just not metal. Anymore, anyway. That was a really frustrating thing to figure out, back around the Machine Update or so.
