What...
Warning: Anti-piracy rant inbound...
Call me paranoid, , but all of the huge green button clickbait ads sends up lots and lots of red flags for me. I only see those on "We want money, please take some malware we don't see because we make money to spread it around without asking questions" minded sites... (or else they just want money and don't care 'whose' ads end up being shown on their site so long as they get their money for ads shown/clicked on...)
Also, they bit where it says "copyright 2016 Subnautica Game" (that links to the page it is on) and no apparent mention of Unknown Worlds (the devs) is also kind of a red flag.
And the kind of poor grammar/English at spots.
*switches to pirate impersonation*
Arrrr... avast me maties, I think I see a pirate hiding over on yonder website...
*end pirate impersonation*
They obviously secretly hate the game and want the devs to fail, by providing poor press coverage by exposing present and potential Subnautica fans to a potentially unsafe site aimed at trapping/baiting people who actually click on those obviously dangerous giant 'click here for free download stuff' ads, and by basically telling people to steal the game so the devs run out of money and have to shelve the game possibly indefinitely before it is properly completed, or otherwise to pester the heck out of the devs why a free download is not working (the latter of which is nice because then the devs get alerted to the issue and can BatPhone whatever legal people they have to go BanHammer some stuff with legal paperwork and takedown notices and whatnot).
Because devs are people to, and they have to eat, pay bills, maybe also pay rent/mortgage (or save up for taxes for actually owned homes), fund developer exploiting extortion artists pay fees for licensing expensive developer software/hardware, etc, and is overall suggesting people should go download a full version of game for free, and to 'not' support the devs in any way, shape or form, is in itself the worst thing ever to do.
One good way to crush piracy, provide a demo, it shuts up the sub-section that simplty does it so they can 'try before they buy'...
Maybe also follow lead of some big name devs, and insert small things that only show up in illegally downloaded versions to troll pirates (or downright break some gameplay elements), and then call out the people that report the 'problem' that only exists in illegally downloaded versions, since that really messes with the whole 'I can do whatever I want on the internet and get away with it because I will always be anonymous' side of things... (but nothing to game breaking should be done with such a tactic, to 'encourage' people to buy the full version for a 'proper' gameplay experience)
That said, will a mod/officer please BatPhone the Devs and let them know they could possibly need to ship off a takedown notice to the wannabe piracy site?
Okay, done ranting.
*re-lurks*
LOL! They even have instruction how to install their "free copy" and one of the points says to turn off your AV. Wonder why. ;)
Usually, if it is too good to be true.........
That site is not official, and is spreading a pirate copy which may contain viruses, keyloggers, or other nasty stuff. Best not even try it. We only sell Subnautica on Steam, and on the Xbox store.
I just love seeing devs actually interacting with the community :) Keep up the good work! NMS I'M LOOKING AT YOU
