debug console - good or bad, permanent or not
in the tricky times of not being able to find framents ect, it is just so easy to hit that F3 key and spawn it in, but this is too easy and spoils the game, but at times the temptation is just too much.

I don't like knowing it is there to use, i hope it will be removed at official launch, i do realise it may be needed now in early access, such as when my cyclops vanished after saving, but as the game gets more reliable and stable, will it be removed.
What are your thoughts, good or bad, keep or remove.

I love it atm, I need the warpme command quite often still when the landscape bugs out on me, or my vehicles dump me into a wall, etc. other than that, at launch I'd hope they turn the dev console off through the .ini file, that way it can still be manually reactivated, but it does not pose asmuch of a "quick fix temptation"

Think of it as a way to train your willpower.

I have expressed my feelings on this several times before on these forums. But, I will reiterate:

I hope they disable it when v 1.0 launches. I have used it a few times for fun (spawning Leviathans into my husband's gamesaves, and he has returned the favor...) and for testing a few times. But I do not like using it and do not use it in regular gameplay. I see no point in the Devs even putting any balance into the game, if they are going to leave cheats wide open and available after the game goes gold. What's the point of adding story and stepping and balances if you can spawn every single thing in and can skip all of that?

Disabling it in all modes and on all platforms at final release is what I would prefer to see happen.

In a single player environment, I can't see it as a horrible thing to keep the ability accessable, even if only to some small degree, even after release. Honestly, I've only ever used it in times I've had structures go missing due to the occasional bug or glitch, or ro spawn the occasional food item to keep me topped up the couple times I did nothing but sit in base for hours on end and read through all the PDA enteries I had aquired, because you can't read them when the game is paused, and you don't always have a bench to sit on to retain your stats either.

But the main reason I support the idea of keeping it is as a comfort item for those players who play this game dispite horrible fears, and even often phobias associated with water and/or drowning. Some people go so far as to use this game as a type of theropy to work through the things that cripple them mentally. Having that there in the background means that they can turn on a quick cheat to help them out of moments of intense stress or anxiety and help them work through those experiences a lot better than if they were playing without that option. Not everyone wants to be forced to stay in creative because of the occasional, and often very brief, moments where they are overwhelmed by what's happening around them, especially when they only need that safety switch for just long enough to get ahold of themselves before turning it off to try again. Story is also disabled through creative mode. You can't get the full experience of this game unless you dive right in to either Freedom, or Survival, and it's the oxygen and health 'cheats' that are often the biggest comforts.

Just because one person can't resist the temptation, doesn't mean others cannot. And what does it matter, really? It's a singleplayer game. No leaderboards, contests or competitions going on about it, and nothing that would make using those commands unfair to anyone other than yourself. It would feel kind of selfish to ask for a feature that could possibly do really good things for some players to be removed just because other players feel badly about their own behaviour in a private game setting. Besides, there's a checkbox you specifically have to click to enable the console. It's not like it's available right out of the lifepod, so to speak. If you don't want to use it, on purpose or by accident, keep the box ticked and you're good to go.

Nearly every game has a command console window option. In this case, don't want to use it, just put a check in the box on the F3 menu, otherwise it isn't going anywhere since it's part of the Unity program. For playtesters (like myself) and others, it is very helpful in moving around the world quickly using the "warp" command. There is no reason to permanently disable it just because someone can't resist using cheat commands. Totally agree with everything Bladetail noted.
