But yes, the grappling arm is kind of mandatory...
Why is so clunky? Why a giant robotic suit wouldn't be a bit clunky?
The PRAWN Suit is THE most FUN vehicle in the game.
You do not need the grappler arm to get a lot of use out of the PRAWN Suit.
You can surmount ALMOST any surface hill / slope / cliff / ravine with just the built in jump jets, even though you may have to search around for a bit to find a workable pathway.
The enhanced Jump Jets add-on expands the navigable terrain hugely.
You cannot ascent hundreds of meters of vertical or overhanging cliff, like the Jellyshroom cave entrances, without the grapple arm, but you should be able to find a workable path through most other terrain. You just need to consider what you are stepping into carefully. There are exceptions.
There are some holes and ravines in the Kelp Forests, the Blood Kelp Zone, and especially he the Underwater Islands deeps and the Blood Kelp Trench that you couldn't get out of solely with the no-grappler PRAWN, but then, you should probably be taking the PRAWN to those operational areas with the Cyclops anyway.
You may not be able to get down to, or out of the deep underground biomes with ONLY the no-grapple PRAWN (get a Cyclops lift), but within them, with enhanced Jump Jets, you should be fine.
But all of this is moot, if you build a PRAWN. Grapple arm blueprints are readily available. They are found in and around at least 9 different chunks of wreck. The easiest of these are probably the northeastern Grand Reef wreck, wreck10, in the ravine, and, especially, the Underwater Islands wreck.
There is no need to be in a rush to finish this game. (Unless you are challenging yourself with a speedrun.) A few game days spent completing your equipment and learning to use new stuff will only help you and enhance your fun. IN CASE YOU DID NOT KNOW, despite the dire warnings and disease progression monitoring, Kharaa will NOT kill you in the context of the game.. You can take whatever time you need / wish. It's a big game environment.
The best way to move the PRAWN around is to dock it in the Cyclops and deploy it in the areas you want to explore, treating it as a short range vehicle. You can ignore the vehicle completely if you really want to, but the game is easier if you take some time to learn how to use the PRAWN to your advantage.
1. Go through any hatch, even if you have to temporarily build one.
2. If you are in a high place, with an available drop, dive off. If you can dive about 40m, you will hit / convert back to water. Then you can swim back. (Of course, if the drop is not high enough, you may kill the character...but you were going to go back to a save game anyway, right?)
I THINK there is a console command that will convert yur environment setting as well. But at worst you can use the console to spawn in a Habitat Builder and some materials, to build a tube with a hatch. Then just deconstruct it all, and turn the console off again, sign out and sign in.
I believe their doing what the kids call these days "memeing"
Character death from Kharaa literally CANNOT happen, game mechanics wise.
It is a remarkable game. Quite unique in its own way. Just a bit tired of the monsters and the constant vigilance for food, water, and saftey. and air :) but wa sfun getting the base made and decorated with stuff. thansk again this is a very nice community ..and that docking mod for the sub is a great one.
cheers and bye for now.
