SCAN EVERYTHING!
You don't "get" aerogel. You make it.
This is another one of those "SCAN EVERYTHING!" moments. Someone probably gave you that advice, or possibly you read it, before you began this game. It is one of the two absolute guidelines for Subnautica. (The other is, "Go Deeper", eventually.)
Tiny spoiler, in the open:
One of the inrgedients for Aerogel is an environmental item. Once you scan that item, the databank entry for that item in the PDA will tell you it may be useful for the advanced material. Do the logical thing at that point and the blueprint will unlock.
Following all PDA clues will lead you directly to one, eventually.
I went 500m deep and still nothing
Just explore.
They look like grey footballs with purple dots on them and they grow in some deep places.
The game is really about exploration so you will probably end up regretting it if you get information through forums of guides.
That's just my experience.
Thanks i couldn't tell i thought it was just part of the environment
thanks
As I said...SCAN EVERYTHING!
For the other, you are on the right track.
If you have been to the 500m location you were directed to, and you have gotten past the crabsquids...
...did you scan everything?
Alternatively, have you thoroughly explored the inside of all the hunks of wreck on the map, out to / down to 500m?
Here are some further only mildly spoiler-y hints/tips:
It is NOT necessary to explore any heavily Reaper infested territory to find the databoxes, or the scannables for this item. You may have to avoid/distract/kill a crabsquid or an ampeel, or several bonesharks, but even that is not necessary. But you will NOT find it in the central massif, the 3 early game "easy swim around" biomes.
Oh, and you will not find it in/around any of the lifepods (though the areas around each of those should be examined as well, when you are properly prepared to go look them over.)
