Do you really need the Cyclops?
Once you get the Prawn suit built and the depth module to MK 3 do you really need the Cyclops to finish the game? You can use the grappling arm to kind of spiderman around as well as upgrade the jump jets.

I'm asking because I hate driving the behemoth of a vehicle and would rather not use it or even build it if I decide to start my game over.

Cyclops is necessary to build a spaceship (Cyclops Shield Generator, crafting in Cyclops, needed for a part of Neptune).

I don't normally use the cyclops either. Prawn is enough. I always make the jump jet upgrade, drill and grapple arm. If I decide to finish the game, I have to build the sub to use the fabricator but I normally do not leave the planet before starting a new game.

As long as you use the external cameras, it shouldn't be hard to drive the cyclops. The thing is that you should use it with a purpose in mind.

As said above you need to build it to finish the game.

After have reading this thread, it's kinda obviouse. ...do or do not. (your choice)

It's not needed, but it depends on your play style. The Cyclops will suffice as a mobile base in the Lost River and lava zones, and those are the main areas that it's intended to be used. However, many players just build a normal base there and completely avoid the Cyclops. Both methods are viable.

The main use of the Cyclops, for me, is in transporting huge quantities of materials. You can build over 100 wall lockers on the sub, and this allows you to transport massive amounts of building materials across the map if you want to construct a very large base.

Okay, when I decide to finish the game I will build the Cyclops just for the fabricator. Thank you everyone for the answers!

Yes, yes you do.

I built the Cyclops just so I could get around to places more easily. Not in terms of speed, but survival. You can build extra lockers and make lots of modules for it so that you could survive on it forever. You would have to have a base for large waters, though.

cyclops is too big and lack of manuever ability, so i only build it to finish the game.

Maneuverability depends on where you build your base. It’s kinda hard in the save shallows, but other places are just fine.

What do you need maneuverability for? Just point the sub towards your destination, and move in straight line.

Watch my video about moving on the blood kelp trench.

No, you don't need to build the cyclops to play the game, but you will need to craft the cyclops at the end of the game, as it has a special fabricator so you can craft a specific item that is required at the very end of the game.

But the cyclops is not needed during normal game play. But it has some nice abilities, mostly as a portable base.

I found it helpful as a mobile base, and my primary means to transport my Prawn, resources, fabricator, etc. to locations distant from my main base (and then secondary in the Tree Cove). It is certainly possible I would have found this less useful If I'd ever been able to get the hang of using the Prawn grapple for vertical and fast horizontal travel.

Watched the videos, practiced for hours, just couldn't get it. It'd take me 5 minutes of trying to get one really good fast zip, and I think I managed to get two in a row without stopping, well, once! Usually I'm quite good at these things, but this particular one I just don't grok.

It is convenient because you can stock it with indoor grow beds to give you limitless food and water, storage, medkit fabrication, etc. And with some extra power cells and/or ion power cells and the thermal charging mod for your prawn, you also have basically limitless power as well. I like to bring the Cyclops down to the river and park it near one of the warp gates there, and use the prawn to descend to the lower river, lava zone, etc.

I just use it to craft the thing you need it to craft…

I’ve used it as a mobile base but tbh I don’t find it much fun moving it about
