It's the best place, specially near the jellyshroom caves.
You get deep water to park your vehicles easily, a lot of empty space to build, tons of resources, plenty of sunlight if you use solar panels, thermal vents inside the caves.
You also get easy access to several important biomes.

Yes, great overall spot. The area near lifepod 17 is the favorite for many people.

I was considering making a base there too lol.
Guess it is indeed a favorite spot for most people.

Tho i really like the feel of the Shallows .. they make me feel like i'm on a relaxing Caribbean scuba diving trip. Just ignore the hazardously radioactive capital ship in the background xD

You can have the best of both and build right near where the shallows meet the grassy plateau area. I kind of like building on the cliff faces where one side has a view into the shallows and the other has the open plateau.

Actually, I don't like the safe shallows. The kelp vines creeps me out...

I personally like the Jellyshroom cave, where you can have a thermal reactor. It´s also quite easy to build a base there, since it´s only about 200 m deep.

Why don't you just build it and find out?
You need to come here to ask what other people recommend without just playing the game yourself. If you can't make that decision yourself, then you're going to make 100 posts
asking people what to do and where to do it next.
Why do you keep making posts like this? This person has asked barely any questions and doesn’t want to spend lots of time and resources for something that could end up terrible.

You're more bitter than a quinine extract.

For real.. I took a peek at your post history. You sound like you need a hug.

One thing I personally particularly like about this is that it's pretty easy to build a base extension that's above water. Nice place for a museum of artifacts and decorative terrestrial plants.

Went into the game completely blind and I'm glad to hear the spot where I built a base turned out to be a favorite for many people.

Well done - this really means that you correctly judged the relevant factors and came to an advanced conclusion all on your own. So kudos!

it is a really good place, but my requirements mean that i NEED to have a thermal vent nearby at least for backup power. I use to build my bases just on the edge of the safe shallows near a vent alongside the grassy plateaus, but now my main base is situated on the entrance to the lost river corridor, which exits out behind the DRF, and also has very easy straightforward access to both of the lava biome story locations. the entrance for the corridor sits on the edge of the mountain and koosh zone biomes, about 300m down. Has thermal power within reasonable reach, and is a great transition point between beginning and endgame playthroughs. Also there are a TON of resources along the corridor.

You can easily have thermal energy above the lifepod 17 from the vents in the jellyshrom cave.

Right next to the northern grassy plateaus are the mushroom trees. I usually build a base there because it's close to the Aurora, and and entrance to the late-game biomes. You can build high up in the trees so you can use solar power and you don't get bothered by the local wildlife.
