why doesnt the character get decompression sickness aka; "the bends"?
i guess it would make the game way too tedious if you had to take rest breaks any time you descended or ascended a certain amount of depth otherwise youd pass out and die? or is it explained within the game that technology has advanced enough where the bends is not a threat?

too bad we still have to eat and drink (A LOT IN THIS GAME TOO) though, i mean thats a pretty teddious thing to have to monitor

As you said, it would be far too boring.

This was considered and even loosely implemented during the EA period, but the devs decided to remove it. It just wasn't a fun mechanic.

There's even an old console command that you can enter -- "nitrogen" -- that was intended to enable decompression sickness. The command is still active, but I don't believe it does anything.

As has been said, it would make terrible gameplay. Kinda like asking why your character doesn't need to stop to poop or sleep ever.

You have the option of selecting a game mode where you don't need to eat or drink, it's purely optional.

It is in the game, but as a console command. Seems it was likely an idea the devs were playing about with but decided against (likely for the sheer number of people that would have flooding this forum asking why they "died from swimming upwards?").

"nitrogen"
"Toggles longer underwater time and adds the factor of decompression sickness if not careful. "

THIS ^ it was developed and added in during development, but i believe because of the shortness of the air supply, and overall enjoyment of the game, the devs didnt fully implement it.

You can survive the bends for the same reason you can freely swim at depths that crush large metal vehicles while having no protection beyond a wetsuit.

It's one of the many things plot armor can resist the effects of

Decompression sickness is for ordinary people. Space janitors who swim three times as fast as Olympic athletes without breaking a sweat have nothing to fear from the laws of physics.

It would be kind of wonky, since both time and distance are compressed in the game.

is time compressed for gameplay or is it because of alien planet?

Gameplay, as most games. You can swim a mile in a few seconds, the days last for 10 minutes or so, etc.

woulden't fit the game because the humans could have evoled as they seem more advanced than humans here on earth or i could be the diving suits
