You can play it with a gamepad or mouse/kb, motion controls don't work, just head tracking.
There is some jank, so I highly suggest two mods off the Nexus, VR Enhancements and VR Y Axis Unlock, and you'll need the usual mod for using any mods with Subnautica.
VR Enhancements fixes a ton of issues with perspective and usage of stuff, and Y axis allows you to hit a button to realign the current up/down to match the way you are currently looking. This means you don't have to spend tons of time craning your neck up/down, and you can even play laying down (I'm disable and can't spend long periods upright, so this was a must have for me if I wanted to play for longer than 15 minutes at a time)
There's no motion controller support, period.
Even without motion control support, Subnautica is absolutely fantastic in VR. Get VR Enhancement Mod to fix some of the issues.
It's a game like "vr support" so basically it should work even on cardbboard. For many such games you need an xbox pad.
Despite the fact that in the game you do not have vr hands, the game is very pleasant and the immersion is high.
I went through the game without any mods. I do not know if they help or harm. I didn't have many problems that others complained about. Minor bugs I encountered did not spoil the game.
I thought that you never played in vr, but I see that you played a little in steam vr and in blade. Therefore, your opinion is terribly strange to me. For me, there is no return to the flat version of Subnaitica. Of course, a version with hands vr would be better. But what we have today is already amazing.
Who the heck would ever need to look at their controls? Unless you've only been playing video games for all of 5 minutes there is simply no reason to ever look at your controls.
Don't use VR then. Simple.
Fantastic, we solved that huge issue. Except for the small fact I wasn't telling you to use VR enhancement, I was telling OP.
It's because most full VR games aren't real games, they're either relying on gimmicks to be interesting or they're straight up indie garbage.
A full, real game with limited VR support is better than 99% of the "VR Games" garbage out there.
