Subnautica below zero save is gone

I started up subnautica below zero and realized that my save was gone, am I missing something obvious? Does Subnautica not use steam cloud saves?

No, Subnautica savefiles are too big for the steam cloud. You have to make manual backups.

Some games (many) save to their catalog.
When you delete a game, you delete the game save.

This is the path for Subnautica:
...\steamapps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames

And I will immediately add, it is impossible to do to the cloud, the game save is too large and too complicated.

Don't know if it applies to your current loss, but I will tell you from experience:

Do Not uninstall / reinstall Subnautica on Steam, if you have a current game savefile you want to preserve. The uninstall cleans up after itself quite thoroughly.

Unless, as in my case you have a larger glitch that forces the issue.

Note: If forced to this, you can possibly protect yourself, if the savefile is not corrupted, by copying to another file name, outside of the Steam file structure, while you uninstall/reinstall.

Technically, yes. But in this case it's the same answer either way.

Yea i noticed this game's saves act very similar to Minecraft world saves (but a bit less extreme) too large for Steam Cloud to handle this.

Steam cloud should come with a warning use at your own risk.
You should always back up your files, for any game in case there's problems.
And this is not the Subnautica below zero forum, go there to post your problems.
