Magnetite locations
I know there is magnetite in the jellyshroom cave. I think I collected up all I could find there.

The wiki says there is "ample" deposits of magnetite in the mountain zone and mountain caves. That's baloney. I think I found maybe 10 individual pieces stuck on the thermal heat stalagmites. The only thing ample in the mountains zone is reapers.

Any truly abundant magnetite locations besides jellyshroom cave?

Are you mining from magnetite deposits? Magnetite is here: Blood Kelp Zones, Bulb Zone, Sparse Reef, Inactive Lava Zone, Lost River.

(Spoilers are in increasing order of story progress reveal)

Magnetite can be found in:
- JSC
- Mountains
- Mountain Caves
- Blood Kelp Zone
- Blood Kelp Trench
- Sea Treader's Path

- Mountains Caves
- Lost River (several areas)
-- Tree Cove
-- Bone Fields
-- Ghost Forest
- Inactive Lava Zone
-- Lava Castle

But no where else as dense as it is in the JSC...

BUT...

... Good Lord, how much did you take out of the JSC?!

- If your loose magnetite node count was less than about 75, then you did NOT pick up all the loose crystals. Try building a Scan Room down there temporarily.
- If you had a PRAWN drill arm, you should have been able to bring out at least a couple of hundred.

Thx for the list! I didn't have a drill arm at the time I was collecting in JSC. I think I'll wander around Sea Treaders Path and Blood Kelp Forest looking for drill deposits & hit the big clumps back in JSC.

Really the main reason why I want more is because of thermal plants requiring them. More energy for cyclops/chargers is a good thing down below.

The mountains do have a lot of magnetite, but it's very hard to find without setting up a scanner room. The large cave across from the major wreck also has a large amount.

When looking for magnetite, lithium, nickle, shale deposits, other non-descript dull colored minerals, a Scanner Room is your friend.

You can fit a prefab kit for a Scanner Room, MPR, Bio- or Nuc- Reactor, and a Hatch into a single wall cabinet, a single inventory load (w/ Builder and other tools), or 2 Seamoth/PRAWN panniers. With just those elements in the Scanner "camp", the Hull Integrity will be adequate at any location all the way down to the Lava Lakes.

Yup -already loaded up and on the course to building bases in the 4-ish corners to get a better resource picture. Of course when I scan frequently only 2 pages on non-essentials show up but sometimes I get 3 pages of scannables.

The only deposits (intended as the big lumps that need to be drilled) of magnetite can be find in the Jellyshroom, unfortunately.
dreamrider Oct 28, 2021 @ 9:34pm
QP, I did not know that.
I thought there were some in the LR. But I bow to your superior knowledge of the map.

Big lumps can be big time savers when building bases. But they are really spread out up top.
Besides magnetite big lumps copper big lumps are kinda rare too.

It sucks when you're trying to make electronic components and you finally find a couple limestone rocks but all they give you is titanium instead of copper. Or in some far away area where there are no table corals.

Swillfly,
Be aware that all Table Corals do not look alike. They come in about 4 colors, in many different biomes, but all function in crafting the same way.

Also, Copper? You have a shortage of copper?? I scarcely know WHAT to say.

Have you been putting in a LOT of signage? ;-)

SPOILER - Table Coral locations: (in increasing order of spoilerage)
Safe Shallows

Grassy Plateaus
Kelp Forest
Kelp Forest Caves

Mushroom Forest
Reefback Leviathan
Sparse Reef
Deep Sparse Reef

Bulb Zone
Crash Zone Mesas

Lost River
--Junction
--Mountains Corridor

Lost River has huge amounts of copper deposits. One visit with a Cyclops and a Prawn should be enough for all your copper needs.

dreamrider: just the big lumps of copper are scarce up top
- I find plenty of limestone
dreamrider Oct 29, 2021 @ 3:14pm
Check.

Large deposits:

Mushroom Forest

Blood Kelp Caves
Blood Kelp Zone
Grand Reef

Lost River
--Junction

Inactive Lava Zone Corridor
Inactive Lava Zone

You can find a big wuantity of copper lumps on the walls of the upper Great Reef, in the NW Mushroom Forest, and (if you dare! lol) deep in the Trench. The Trench is FULL of deposits of magnetite, copper, gold, name it, but not silver. For silver you need to go to the Dunes, Crag Fields, and a couple other places but I'm sorry I don't remember which without having a look at my notes.

But I can assure you, copper deposits are very common in those regions.
EDIT: dreamrider gave you a very good list above. Those regions are so rich, you can go and look for the deposits without the help of the scanner, even though the scanner will obviously give you precision.

Life in Subnautica is pretty hard until you get your drill and claw arms, using the Prawn or the Moth (mod needed for the Moth's arms).
