While this might look like a troll attempt, I am not sure if it wouldn't be easier when you simply use QModManager:
https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/201

Even though there is a page that somewhat explains how to use Vortex with Subnautica
https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Modding_Subnautica_with_Vortex
they only mention the QModManager there, but not how to install it on Vortex.

This mod manager is required for the most interesting mods, as it directly interact with the game's code.

Ah, thanks for nailing that down.

I haven't checked the requirements of many of the mods (as I am not using any), but it literally looks like every of the mods really requires QModManager.
Some of them also require the Modding Helper:
https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/113

So using Vortex (which is basically also a mod manager) seems quite useless as QModManager is already there and required for Subnautica.

Using Vortex is fine, as Qmod is integrated with it. I use Vortex and you can download mods straight off Nexus using the normal Vortex link. You just need to first download Qmod from Nexus which you can find here: https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/201. It took me 3 minutes to set up, and I don't know much about modding. I was already using Vortex for other games, and I see zero difference in how Vortex functions with Subnautica compared to other games.

For the OP: I just QoL mods so I can't say which ones are good for "spicing" things up, but there are YouTube channels which profile Subnautica mods that make more significant changes than the basic ones, so maybe do a search on YT.

Well, I am used to installing mods by hand only using the requirements on the respective pages.
Especially as games like Nehrim work better with Wrye Bash than with Vortex.

But it's good to know that it works properly with Vortex either.

Yeah, since I started heavily modding games like Fallout, I couldn't bear to do it all manually so that's when I started using Vortex. Too lazy :) When I saw that I had to use another mod manager for Vortex, I groaned. Then I realised that I just needed to install Qmod first, and then use the normal Vortex download link for every mod that came after that. Made life much simpler. Thus far, no problems.

Well thanks for sharing.

I merely like to use Vortex only for Skyrim, SE, Fallout 4 and maybe also New Vegas.

But for Nehrim I am used to just use Wrye Bash, especially as there aren't that many mods available.

yeah probably should've said i already have manager

Well... Then it's up to you looking for them.
These are the top mods on Nexus:
https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/top/

You can skip the QManager as you already have it.
SMLHelper is another required addition for some mods, so be sure to check the "Requirements" on each mod page or simply install it right away.

The others might be interesting.
Here the mods are sorted by unique downloads.

Pretty similar to the top mods, yet with a few differences.

Pick your choice. :)

I've previoulsy used the map mod on Creative and found it pretty neat.
https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/12
I've either used a weapon mod just for the sake of having a ranged weapon.
https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/141

Yet I stopped playing the game for good at that point and right now, I am not using any mods, so these are the only ones I have had experience with unfortunately.

the ones which add upgrades and other features to the vehicles are cool. the map mod is useful. Resource monitor is a big time and tedium saver
PillagerMidget May 12, 2021 @ 7:40pm

I am persnally waiting for this bunde of mods to come out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btb6HLtFvyM

It was bunch of mods at nexus but the developer has pulled it off and now they are developing them separately as they are a complete overhaul of the game.

Check theit vids on youtube. You can download mods nevertheless but they are in beta state.
