VR controls?
So I've been playing subnautica for quite some time and really enjoy it.
My latest attempt was in VR and it looks awesome.

However, I can control everything except turning around with my Oculus rift controllers.
How to face another direction?

The game is not compatible with Oculus Rift controllers, it says so on the store page. Read the entire store page before you buy. You need a controller or keyboard.

Ok, yes I can control it with mouse and keyboard but that makes it quite useless in VR for Oculus Rift, indeed.

Ok. Thanks for input. Looks brilliant in VR. Will come back later.

Don't want to derail this thread since the OP had a question about Oculus Rift. But I own a HTC Vive VR Pro headset. So does the Vive also have issues with its controllers with this game? I watching a YouTube video recently where some fellow was playing Subnautica with the Oculus Rift and he could only play the game in "Creative" mode because of issues with his controller. I guess the challenge I have is that my VR setup is for sim racing where I am sitting in a racing rig, I am not walking around the room.

PS: still only playing this game on my PS4 console since I was lucky enough to download it a little over a week ago for free. But this game would be out of this world (pardon the pun) in VR if one could get the controllers working.

Thank you swoopnhuck, it makes sense. I will then continue playing without the VR for now.

If you have a gamepad use it. I play subnautica in VR and use a PS3 controller also if you don't mind using mods look up the vr enhancement mod on nexus

Just use a gamepad. The game is amazing in VR.

There's a mod on Nexus that works great for Touch Controllers

Thank you all ladies & gents for tips! I'll try the controller I have in my drawer somewhere. Also the link to Nexusmods look promising.

Going to continue my "Survivor" game play through on my PS4 console iteration of the game (I am in the middle stages of the game). But I am also thinking I really should buy the PC version of the game and start playing Subnautica with my Vive VR (and I guess I will need to pick up a gamepad). It's going to be a little weird sitting in my racing simulator playing Subnautica. But as long as I can control the game with the gamepad (likely very similar to how I play it now with the PS4 console?) and not rely on the keyboard and mouse, it should be good.

That is not true. The VR Controllers for Oculus Quest 1 works and are user-friendly.
All you have to do is remap a few buttons and only rarely rely on the keyboard for a few things I couldn't map to the controllers (but might be possible). Such as:
1) ESC for the Menu to Save and Quit [Only used when you end play-session]
2) Q to deconstruct items [Very rarely used, may be omitted with careful planning]
3) F to Self-scan [Only needed once or twice throughout the entire game]

I said supported, not doesn't work.

For the record, I was referring to the second part of your sentence, where you wrote: "you can only use gamepad or keyboard". I put the emphasis on the word only.

I see there are some problems with the VR, but also solutions for anyone that want to explore the suggested alternatives. Thank you community!

Then you should've read the store page.

I got the game ages ago and I want to play it again now that I got a VR headset. I am fine with playing using a mouse and keyboard, but I am locked out of mouse turning because my head movements are interpreted as mouse turning instead. This means I can't turn more than 180 degrees in the game or else I will be facing away from my desk. Do you have any solutions for that, or is your answer going to be "should have thought of that before you re-installed the game?"
