I'd only recommend not buying it if you are easily triggered at the idea of playing a female, homosexual people exist, or are driven into a mental breakdown by a PDA with an Indian accent.
Let me be more specific then as I know that it isn't a DLC, but it FEELS like a DLC and is much smaller in scale.
Instead there's the seatruck, which is kinda like the seamoth, though you can sacrifice some speed, maneuverability and power efficiency to turn it into a sort of mobile base by attaching modules with stuff like a sleeping area, some storage lockers, an aquarium that'll auto-capture nearby edible fish, etc., which I guess also makes it kinda the replacement for the cyclops in terms of being what you'd use for long-term outings in the deeper areas. There's also the snowfox, a land-based hoverbike for exploring the more expansive areas above water. The Prawn suit is still there and almost the same, the base and upgraded crush depths are decreased to match the less expansive underwater area, and it has a sort of forward boost to add a little extra maneuverability.
It was made as a cash cow to ride on the back of the success of SN.
If you mostly enjoyed Subnautica for its narrative, BZ will leave you cold.
Love crawling around the island and wish you'd freeze to death while doing so? Get BZ!
*) Except for the void, of course.
I don't know how long it took you to complete each run, or how much fun you had, but consider the time it'd take to "complete" a Below Zero run to be far shorter than Subnautica. You'll be beating Below Zero quicker, not only because it's a shorter game, but you'll be going into it with all your experience gained from Subnautica.
There's a few more things to play with, but a smaller and more shallow map, with a "story", that offers no replayability value beyond what Subnautica offered. If you are looking for something different, Below Zero may not actually offer enough diversity from Subnautica. You still swim. You still catch fish. You build stuff. You scan things. You walk around alot more often. There's a few new tools/equipment/suits/things to build/decorations. "New" "vehicles", but no actual new mechanics.
No research beyond "hold LMB with Scanner for X seconds"
No story beyond "exposition/pda/voice lines"
No intended order of progression, go anywhere and find any of the story plot points in any order (Intended)
No new exploration avenues. There's land....but we had "land" in Subnautica. Below Zero just has "more" land. No land biome diversity, the "exploration" is basically 10 feet on land, then copy and paste that experience for a thousand more meters between winding paths and caves. Lots of white. You will see alot of the same.
I'm not sure what metric of how "different" an experience you are looking for. I'd say Below Zero would be "new" to you, but not very "different" If that doesn't bother you, and the 30 bucks isn't an issue, give it a try for yourself. Otherwise, I'd say try a third run on Subnautica, with mods (if you don't already play with)
