It's great to go early on for the free depth module and storage module for the Seamoth. Lets you save time and upgrade the Seamoth before ever building a Moonpool or VUC. Not to mention, you find lots of batteries (and some Power Cells), which are also helpful around that time before get blueprints for Swim Charge Fins.
I used to avoid going to the Aurora until later in the game, now I go as early as possible.
