Absolutely forever.
Subnautica is still one of the best games I've ever played.
Subnautica is one of the games which freaked me out most, even though it's not really a bloody game. It has a very unique atmosphere.
Subnautica isn't extremely long, cause there are some limits to the aerias which you can discover. Still, if you don't understand the basics and what you really need, then this game can take pretty much a while.
In addition, if you play it on a high-end pc, then you can build a lot in the creative mode. But without the terraformer that kinda doesn't matter that much anymore, I guess.
