Instead of windows.
Foundations and locks can also be used to strengthen buildings.
The map is divided into different biomes.
Different biomes have different kinds of flora and fauna, and different resources to collect.
Just keep exploring and eventually you'll start finding different things.
I could spoil if you want but I'd rather not. Exploring is a key part of the game.
A. keep your 1st base small, 1 or 2 tubes ... and a fab, and a chair.
B. Don't bother putting any windows in your 1st base; for now you just want a place to store stuff.
C. Although you have the Reinforcement blueprint from the start, the 1st practical way to reinforce hull integrity is to put a platform foundation under all or part of your base (or even adjacent to it). After a few more hours of exploring, you may find fragments of a bit called a bulkhead. That is an easy form of reinforcement also.
You don't need it.
Reinforcements are needed at great depths.
The base has a strength of 10, most elements add -1 to this. But this -1 multiplies with depth. You can say that up to -100 meters it does not matter.
It is possible to build a clever base without reinforcements even -800 meters under water.
Just don't bother with it now.
edit:
Maybe it's better to temporarily subtract some glass until you have materials for reinforcements :)
