Oh my god, this is an absolutely miserable experience on console. Don't try it.
So this game is currently free on PS4. Since Subnautica is my favorite PC game, I decided to check out the console version.

Mistake.

This game is absolutely miserable on console. You can play it. But it's not fun. I'm not even talking frame dips or low quality textures. I mean, just catching a fish is so painfully hard. You need a Peeper on PC then you just swim over and pick it up. But holy hell, does it suck with a controller. I might try remapping the controller, because X as the action button is just the worst. Even swimming around and breaking limestone is just so unpleasant. Stuff that's so easy to do on PC is just an absolute chore here.

And I wish I could better explain the poor controls, but I just can't. The only thing I can say is stay away from the console version. I mean, it's free right now, so if you want to try it then do it. But don't give anyone money for the console version.

I play it in Xbox. Works fine for me. I think you just need practice to get used to it.

I also play on Xbox, my PC is too weak... I never had any trouble.

With a Steam Controller, I mapped Action/Pick Up/Interact to both the normal button A as well as the Right Grip.

I wish the damn PS5 controller had the grips on the backside.

The "X" was aways the default action button in almost all of PS video games, I play on steam with controller, you need to get used to it and you will see, it's not that bad.

Lol. Why you don't play with the better "controller", named Keyboard and Mouse?

Besides of that, I would play subnautica on PS4. It's a totally low fps stuttering party.

I can't speak for the op (or for the user you were quoting), but speaking for myself personally... I have arthritis in my fingers and my day job requires full use of a keyboard/mouse, so when I finish working at the end of the day, booting up my gaming laptop to use keyboard/mouse is the last thing that I want to do.

One of my coworkers who's also a gamer in his mid-30s and I were talking about this a week ago... both of us pretty much have no choice but to use a controller these days. It makes me wonder how many people out there are also like this... maybe people who grew up playing too many video games at a young age and now have joint pain or carpal tunnel at like age 35.

Mouse and keyboard doesn`t work as well when I`m sitting in a big puffy reclining chair in my living room. (Got my PC plugged into my tv.) I do use a mouse and keyboard when doing PC stuff like watching something on youtube or browsing websites. I just use the arm rest as a mouse pad and sit the keyboard in my lap. But for games I always use a controller.

Controller is very comfortable, we have to take care of our joints, after a path of exile league I'm with my wrist hurting a lot, be able to use controller in other games easy this a lot, we must mix controller and keyboard/mouse to play.

Racing, fight, arcade, rpg and hack and slash is perfectly playable with a controller, you will need keyboard/mouse to play competitive games, more hardcore FPS, RTS, and games you need a keyboard to not stay behind.

STOP TELLING PEOPLE TO STAY AWAY FROM FREE GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got 30-40 hours logged on the Xbox version (since it's on Game Pass at the moment), just passed the DRF and have had no control issues whatsoever. Yes some of the base construction stuff is a bit more finicky, and peepers are harder to catch (only until you get the propulsion cannon) but it is hardly the miserable experience that the OP suggests it is.

Is no one going to tell them that you can also use L2 instead of X...
Zorbec-L-Kraak Mar 31, 2021 @ 10:11am
Playing it on ps4, no problem either. I'm also another one that play with a controller on pc games when it's an option. I like it better and I don't currently have a place where I can sit and play with a keyboard for hours without messing up my neck/arms. Also I have hyperhydrosis so I have to stay away from the keyboard at times anyway.

I mean, different strokes for different folks, it's a singleplayer game for ♥♥♥♥ sake.

Having played on xbox and pc. It is like 2 different games, and the xbox one feels like janky garbage with all the stuttering and low frames. getting 100+ fps in this game makes a huge difference vs 10-20fps
