Why are there reapers on the crash zone again ?
looking at the basically obliterated zone, it's clear that the crash zone used to be a safe shallows because there are remnants of it (giant corrals, similiar resources). but why would there be so many reapers there ?

Was it the safe shallows? The Aurora crashed near the edge of the crater - we know leviathans favour the edge of the crater.

Maybe they moved in, drawn by the sounds of the Aurora crashing and burning, or the smell of carrion.

No idea, theories only.

Sharks - blood in the water...

I believe it was explained somewhere that reapers enjoy the radiation around the wreck of the aurora.

I think it would be safe to assume the current crash zone was a combination of the bulb zone, safe shallows, and a third, unique biome that is now where the crash zone mesas are.

There is at least some in-game support that a part of it was the safe shallows since we see a 4th Degasi base in that biome in the trailer that cannot be found in game (this base is also mentioned in the log files). The only explanation that makes sense would be that the Aurora landed on that area and destroyed it.

As for why there are Reapers, they could have migrated there after the crash. The region is not far from the Mountains entrance to the Lost River, where we know they would head based on skeletal remains. Reapers tend to prefer biomes that are very open and deep (Dunes and Mountains), perhaps because their echolocation works better there. The open crash zone site seems like a good fit.

The Reapers are in the Crash Zone because of how they hunt, they use ECHOLOCATION to find prey, a big ship crashing into the ocean is gonna make a lot of noise in the water drawing all sorts of predators.

There are skeletons of them in the Lost River, so they presumably leave the lava zone that way when they need to feed and hunt Reapers. The wiki also says they eat lava lizards and crimson rays, although I'm not sure if this is stated in the game.

On the topic of those skeletons, if you scan them before finding the remains in the lava zone the PDA entry will still say that they were forced all the way down into the lava zone.

Imagine how scary it would be if that would actually happen in game...
If there would be a very small chance, once in a while, to encounter a Seadragon in the Lost River on his way to the surface.
Would be terrifying.

You ever wonder why sharks come to crashed planes

Its because they are curious and have no sense of fear even tho it is new and should be they have no idea what the crash is but they come to it because of pure curiousity

I think they like to make wrecks their homes, you will always see a lot of sharks around wrecks.
