how do you get gaspods and where?

Gasopods (the strange manatee-like creature) spurt them out when you get too close. Collect the pods before they explode.

Easiest way to do this is to use the propulsion cannon. After you grab something with it one mouse button fires it and the other grabs it from the beam.

....For some reason I can never remember which is which.....

Simple yes. But as I say, in an hour or so I will likely have forgotten once again.

Here's how I remember it:

When you click it with the right,
you launch the gas pod out of sight.
When you click it with the left,
something something rhymes with "left".

Right click grabs and throws, because right click is what you use to activate tools. Left click is used to grab objects in the beam, because left click is what you use to grab stuff. F deactivates the beam to drop a grabbed item in place.

And then in reverse.
Hitting F when it isn't active lets you load in items from your inventory (that one I can remember).
If using the prawn version you can use Alt+F to load in items from the prawns inventory.
