vertical base?
Is there a way to make my base vertical instead of horizontal?

If you mean turning pieces vertically, no. But you can use vertical tubes and stack multipurpose rooms to create a base that is higher than it is wide.

You'll need ladders, so don't sweat it if you stack things and you don't know why there's no automatic hatch connection.

You absolutely can build a base that's just a massive skyscraper. I've actually been meaning to build one as high as I can and just dive off into the water, see what kind of depth and momentum I can get going. It takes a LOT of materials, though.

As others say, it can be done with use of stacked MP rooms and the vertical tubes, you just need two titanium per ladder (doesn't matter how high the ladder needs to be).

If you're cleaver (also careful) about it you can even build up out of the water.

I had one built in the floating island lagoon that went up to the cliffs and cave entrance so that I wouldn't have to slog around the edges to get up there.

Oh, I like that first base

Heh, their the same base. It's all connected so I can go from one end to the other.

Second picture is where that pipe leads, first picture is inside that rock formation. The whole thing was about 250+ meters tall (or is that deep?).

I....try not to think about how many resources that took me....

Lol, nice. And stupidly inefficient. And just really nice.:lunar2019laughingpig:

I have one base that I built about 400 meters off the ground using vertical tubes. This one is on the very edge of the map, and the glass walkway extends into the void.

With this base, I used the vertical tubes to lead up to a nice recreational skydeck:

(getting the table and chair like that was literally the hardest thing I did in this game)

Yeah, this game is SO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ uncooperative with ♥♥♥♥ like that, sometimes. I hate that they don't let you build a MP room on the center of one of those platforms, the rules for the placement of things make no sense to me.

Even underwater these things can be so uncooperative.

The game uses a square grid to lay out it's base pieces with the layout of the grid itself set by the first piece placed.
Any one corridor piece for example takes up one square.
Foundations take up four and MP rooms take up nine.
Hence why the only way to make them sit centered is to have two different grids overlap each other and be very precise with the placement of the second one.

I like your use of relays as a fence. Or a protective lethal laser grid. Hmmm, dangerous to get those two mixed up....

But MP rooms fit entirely WITHIN a single foundation! That's just stupid!:steamfacepalm::lunar2019madpig:

Purely decorative fence, the power from it isn't even going into the base :steamhappy:.

As to the grid, as it said it's just how it works out with a square grid. You can't center a 4 squared sized item inside of a nine square sized grid.
But as I said, if you really want your base to have that look you can fake it.

Or in my case, I just stopped putting foundations under my bases except where I needed some flat ground for planters. And even then they tended to be a bit off to the side.
You can also stack Alien Containment modules to make bigger aquariums

Yeah, I know, but it still seems stupid to make the smaller (in two dimensions, anyway) circle room take up more grids than the larger square platform. Maybe it helps save on data to not overtax systems, and if so, I get that, or maybe they did it for some other practical reason, but it's still irritating. It just looks awful.

And yeah, I've made like 15+ bases (most of which are a bare-bones MP room, Scanner, power source, necessary pipes/ladders, single hatch, bulkhead, and fabricator setup, so I can stop off whenever and do whatever I need without having to worry about too much flooding or damage), so sometimes I just don't have the luxury of an abundance of lithium to increase the durability, and have to use lead to make platforms so that I can make up the difference. It takes a lot of resources, but at least I always have a map available and can locate whatever I may need.

Nice. Too bad this game doesn't allow you to open and run and profit off of your own resort. But maybe you can come back after you win the game and use it to pay off whatever debts you may accrue.

Do you have honeymoon suites with a sex-tub/pool? Those are very important, especially if you want to add to your profits by opening a casino and/or brothel.
