Any recommendations for visiting the Sea Treader Paths?
I understand a few things about it: the sea there is really deep, and the Sea Treaders aren't really aggressive.

I just created the Seamoth, and I have a rebreather... but the Seamoth can only go down to 200 at most.

You should upgrade the Seamoth's depth module before traveling there.

The Sea Treader's Path is a totally optional area and doesn't have much to offer except the shale deposits that the Treader's kick up. They are 'non-aggressive" but will kick you for serious damage if you get in front of them, so be careful.

Grab yourself some poop! It's your only chance to do so!:steamhappy: Also, there's supposedly several Cyclops fragments and blueprint PDAs there, but I had already built it and gotten most of the blueprints before I found the place, so I wasn't really searching at that point.

The seatreaders are about as aggressive as the floating garden leviathans. They will ignore you and they are super slow,

It's one of my frequent visit places.
Unlimited gold, diamond and lithium.
Mostly safe. Only the warpers are annoying. And yes, it's quite deep so upgrade your seamoth.

If you go there be careful of the warpers and the creatures in the grand reef just on the edge of the sea treaders path. You can go there and find a reck, many materials naturally spawning and droping from the sea treaders themselves. Another point is that the sea treaders poop can be used in a bioreactor for fuel. I would recommend going there if u are happy to get resources and be scared for your life as purple teleporting things zap around.

Honestly, I think those warpers might be the most terrifying thing in the game... At least you can predict where the Reapers are gonna show up. I've encountered warpers where I didn't expect.

Have you met the Ghost Leviathan in the Grand Reef yet?

Actually just now... o.o I was trying to get to another Degasi habitat... the one at 500m.

Poor you. That guy is the worst. In the open water like that.

That's why you hug the terrain, past those thermal vents. Just wait for the Warper to jump to his other position before you make your move.

You can make some edits in a single .json file and correct it, but the math is radically against you. Even slight increases result in an exponentially higher GPU requirement to maintain playable FPS. It's really obvious once you start playing with them why they had to taper them back as they did, especially in the poor console configs. Hopefully, newer things they've learned about Unity in the second game will trickle back into SN as time goes on. It does seem to be shaping up into an almost remastered state with the last year's worth of experimental patches at least as far as how it runs now vs back in 2018 at release.

I imagine that a beast like a 3090 would have no problem pulling 1440p and locked 60 FPS or better even with the more demanding view range edits. Back when we all cared and wanted to fix it, all you could even get was a 1080 Ti and the game with more demanding edits could make that look like and perform like a budget GPU if you forced the rendering distances to load a full circle of extra cells in front of the player at all times.

It's just that on the hardware most people have, even a slight increase in the high-quality rendered area can result in halving or worse of the frame rate. It basically requires those terrible LODs (i.e pop in) to maintain any semblance of performance on less-than-god/future-tier hardware.

The game is still kind of on my "come back later with a 5080 Ti when I have one" short list because I would love to play it again with much higher view distances and still have it be playable.

....what does any of this hardware information have to do with avoiding a Ghost Leviathan in the Grand Reef?

How often do the treaders walk by? I built a base on their route and haven't seen them since. They are a good resource for lead, titanium, lithium, diamonds, etc. Also, random question. Can you charge the floor lights or replace the battery? Or are they only good for single use? I completed this in 2014 and don't remember if I even used a floodlight.

Might have been better to create a new thread for this (the last response before your post was in mid-2021), but I think the Sea Treaders kind of wander as a group back and forth along the path over time, so they should be back eventually.

As for the floodlights (and spotlights), they run off of the base power. If the base has power (lights on, generating oxygen, etc.) and has enough power to spare (1 point per five seconds per light, and I believe there's some minimum energy threshold as well), any floodlights/spotlights that are considered part of the base will also be powered. You don't need to worry about charging them or changing the battery or anything, they'll run forever as long as the base has power.

The Sea Treader's Path wreck is just barely into the STP biome. That is the only place where quest-related material may be found, and it is really much more like the adjacent biome than the main STP.

The only PDA in the STP is totally dismissable, doesn't move the main or secondary story at all.

But it can be a cool place to visit...once. No tourist to 4546B should miss the Sea Treader's Path Cave.

it is also a good approach vector if you are trying to clear the Reapers from around the various Dunes wrecks. So they don't double or triple up on you.
