But in the end I did learn how to not make stupid decisions but that's honestly with every game.
So yeah, hardcore mode isn't really worth it
My first attempt I went too deep into a cave and ran out of oxygen before I could locate an exit
Lesson learned: Only go for what you need, never wander
My second attempt I was starving to death so I ate raw fish then I was dhydrated so I dided of that
Lesson learned: always, ALWAYS, pack supplies for trips even if it's not a long one.
Not to mention I didn't see ONE reaper leviathan so that's pretty awesome
IMO wandering is part of the beauty of the game, but yeah, you need to go prepared. Extra oxygen helps (you can switch oxygen tanks) and though some people don't like it, there's a pathfinder tool to help you in these situations. In some cave systems you can even go with the Seamoth.
"What is a wave without the ocean?
A beginning without an end?
They are different, but they go together.
Now you go among the stars, and I fall among the sand.
We are different.
But we go... together."
My interpurtation of this, is based on her interactions with the Precursors. Comparing that experience, to her experience (or attempt) with Bart Torgal, failed communication. Compare that to her interaction with Ryley, whom doesn't speak verbally, but perhaps was still able to engage in more meaningful "communication" with Sea Mama.
Ryley listened.
Ryley investigated.
Ryley perservered.
Ryley cared.
Ryley granted a dying ancient, sentient Leviathan's final wishes.
Ryley helped usher in a new generation of Sea Emperors, possibly preventing their extinction
Ryley succeeded where nature, science, and technology had failed.
"We are different...........but we go...........together"
Even though they are different species, come from different worlds, and are entirely, completely, totally different.............Ryley and Sea Mama went together. They were able to understand each other, and work towards a mutual goal that benefitted not just both of them, but the entire planet...........nay, perhaps the entire galaxy? Perhps all of existance.
For all the Precursor's technological advancement, they could not reach or understand Sea Mama's feelings, emotions, or desires.
For all of Bart's intellect, and kind hearted curiosity (and brain implants) he was unable to understand Sea Mama's call for help. Mistaking her communications with telepathy as fever dreams.
By working together, cooperating, Ryley and Sea Mama accomplish their goals. Her eggs were given the nutrients and enzymes needed to hatch, that she could not obtain herself. The Kharaa was cured. Ryley was able to deactivate the Quarintine Enforcement Platform and achieve freedom and escape.
Notice how Sea Mama, already older than her species should have gotten, clinging to life beyond any reasonable ability to do so.....she clung just a little longer. It's only when Ryley chooses to leave in the Neptune Rocket, and she makes her final communication with Ryley, does she finally let go and succumb to inevitibility. She could have let herself go once her bebies were hatched, but no.
She hangs on.....perhaps to ensure that Ryley makes it off the planet safely. Her parting thoughts are over a millenia worth of experiences condensed into a single gesture.

Not every solution to every problem is violence, or force. By Ryley surrendering to his circumstances, learning to cooperate and live with the ecosystem instead of against it, with the help of the Sea Mama, the path forward for both himself, the Sea Emporer race, and the future of 4546B is revealed.
Her death is given meaning, because her life was given meaning. Her clinging to existance pays off in the end. She waited long enough........long enough to meet Ryley. Whom was able to understand her....and because of him, her bebies are born. It was worth it. She never gave in. Not to loneliness, not to fear, not to death itself.
Similarily, Ryley never gave up, despite the odds, his fear, and the incredible weight of the gravity of the situation.
We have more to gain from understanding one another than we do from fighting with one another.
I hope i have been able to help shed some understanding on Sea Mama's final thoughts to Ryley(you)
=)
Common man, you're gonna make me cry.
What a ride it has been. And what an amazing story this game has.
Truly. The writers of the original story really made something special.
Just gonna start 1 more playthrough. Havent had enough......
Side note: I never even made this connection.
When Bart talked about his visions, I always thought it was some sort of symptom from the Kharaa bacterium. But now that I think of it, it seems obvious.
