Actually, I want to know this too. I've been thinking about getting a VR and "Elite Dangerous"

It's one of my fav VR games right now.
Needed to add a few mods and you will want to play with a game pad (im using an x box one controller). I definitely wouldn't play it without the VR Enhancements mod from the Nexus though. It adds in some things that were taken out and makes a few changes to make for a better experience.

I'm on Oculus Quest 1, playing it wirelessly using Virtual Desktop with the original Touch controllers. You need a strong PC too. The VR is beautiful and very fun indeed. Although I have several other hot VR titles to play like Skyrim and Fallout 4 there is this special magic with the alien underwater world of Subnautica that compels me to come back and play it time and again before any other. In fact, I will load it up right now.

Im having same issue - Rift s - Its not the VR set, Its the game and a known bug that they are simply to lazy to fix, Its a dam game breaker. If you open your inventory - the next time you press A after getting out you will loose controller control. so you play like 5 min and your done. U might as well just uninstall it or play it flat. They appear to be to lazy and don't give a crap.

The mod others mentioned is more or less mandatory. VR is utterly broken without the mod.

Why am I and several others able to play using both the original touch controllers and the xbox controllers without problem if it is the game that is bugged?

I've never experienced this bug and everything has worked 100% stable. I've heard there are different version out there based on where you bought your copy. I bought my copy on the Steam store. I run SteamVR and start Subnautica from there. Where did you get yours and how do you get started to play this game?

This bug seem to be picky with whom it chooses to manifest for and I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

I've got Rift S, steam version, with the vr mod, and my controls bug out sometimes. I think it tries to switch to the touch controllers, and those are not fully supported so there are some things you simply can't do with them. So, I'd have to pick up the touch controllers to save game and exit, which is not ideal. I think I might have gotten it straightened out before by going to the Oculus menu using touch and then reentering the game. So, use the controller, but keep the touch controllers in reach to get yourself working again. It's not ideal. On the plus side, I think it's actually easier to chase down Peepers in VR. I wonder if taking the batteries out of the touch controllers would stop the confusion, or just get me hopelessly stuck.

For fun VR games, No Man's Sky is my current favorite regular game that's ported into VR. Some people have problems with performance, so it can take some tweaking to get it smooth enough to play. It's not perfect on mine, but definitely playable and I enjoy the VR enough that I'm not tempted to go back to the flat screen.

I also play The Forest, though figuring out the controls is difficult and it seems that some things, like blocking, just don't happen. You also need to read a recipe guide because you won't get the recipe hints in VR that you would on screen. But it's still fun to walk around in.

Just started playing this game on the index. WTF I can't move & I don't see any controllers on screen. Also the A button appears to be backwards. WTF is this a VR game or not??

There are just too many functions in Subnautica to be able to map them all adequately on the original touch controllers I am using, so I resort to the keyboard to hit ESC and save game and hit q when I need to derez something. It sure isn't ideal, but I can do most everything else with the controllers and they haven't stopped working. You didn't mention what controller you use instead of the touch controllers. Hopefully your post here can help others that are stuck without moving to see how they can get moving again.

Have you read up on what other Index players are saying about Subnautica in VR? My impression is that most say the index controllers doesn't work but the xbox controller does.

Yes, the keys mentioned in the Controller binding is "backwards" whenever they say right trigger, it is actually left trigger and A is X and so forth. No biggie. It's a great VR game as long as you figure out how to setup a playable controller bindings!

I ended up refunding the game. As it was a stuttering mess. I tried mods, hacks nothing seems to work & it's the only VR game I have that just didn't work. Looked pretty cool I wanted to make content for my VR channel but the game is absolute trash in VR. Oh well.

It's not fair to say the game is trash in VR. It runs beautifully with no stutter whatsoever for me, smooth as silk. My Alienware desktop stats: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 3.59 GHz, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER.
