Controller support gone?
Did the devs make a recent update that screwed up controller support? I just downloaded the game again after not having played for quite a while and nowhere in the menue does it say anything about being able to use a controller.

It always had controller support, though. Tf is going on?

(Also the controller has to be plugged in before starting it so the menu to turn it on shows up)

I'm new to the game and I've never seen anything that's more screwed up than getting the controls to work in this game. Tried Xbox controller, Oculus touch. About to give up now.

Well, I have a Xbox controller, and it also isn't working.

It used to work just fine, but they f*cked something up with the last update, I reckon.
It's a really good game though, I hope they fix it so you are able to enjoy it. :reaperleviathan:
In the meantime, maybe try Stranded Deep - it has a similar atmosphere, but works.

Are you guys trying to play the regular game or vr? Because SteamVR seems to also be having some issues either detecting controllers or keeping them connected. Anyway... trying unplugging and replugging your controller and that will often fix it.

Just the normal game. I have tried everything, I'm not stupid :TiredFlorence: I've tried unplugging and replugging the controller, I've tried closing and restarting the game, I've tried restarting my computer, I've tried reinstalling the game. Nothing is working. It's not a problem on my end.

I gave up - game returned. I liked the style and immersion but struggling with the controls is just not my idea of fun.

I've been having the same problem. It's not a Subnautica update issue - unfortunately it's a Steam update issue. It's affected a few other games as well. It sounds like Subnautica will have to be updated to fix it.

I was able to get around it by programming the controller to the keyboard layout - it's not perfect but it helps!

Look, I know there are some very special individuals among us gamers, the mouthbreathing troglodytes with issues far worse than having a single digit IQ, but then there is you. A person so uniquely handicapped that it defies all logic assessment capabilities. I am sheer stunlocked of what answers the questions that propose to me. As, if it is so degenerate, how is it able to write? If it can't read properly, how did it even understand what is going on here? What does it even search in a written online forum? I am unable to make sense of this riddle. But let me put this in other words you might understand:

You dum-dum.

That was maybe a bit harsh, I'm sorry. But don't you think unplugging and replugging is the first thing anybody tries? Or uninstalling, deleting files and reinstalling? Its condescending to propose a solution like this. We are not idiots, and neither are you.

No. Not necessarily. Subnautica has had a specific issue where button bindings do not stick if the controller is plugged in when you stay up the game. This issue has existed for forever. Unplugging and replugging the controller after the game has started forces a reload of the button mappings and solves that particular issue every time. I offered that same advice to someone that had a problem a month ago and it solved their problem and they were grateful. Not only that, but i have, myself, been having more controller issues as of few weeks ago. Controller didn't work at all or only some buttons worked. Very annoying. However, after unplugging and replugging the controller several times, the controller started working and kept working for the rest of the play session.

Well, that's great for you! But as I've already said numerous times - it doesn't work this time. Not just for me, but quite a few other people as well. And I also find it a little insulting that I get a suggestion like that. Like I wouldn't be able to figure out to try that myself. I did. It's the first thing I did. It didn't work.

Negative, switching to Steam Beta does not fix it. Nor does being on Subnautica Beta or Experimental builds.

This update to the Steam client was for a variety of reasons, and has a variety of impacts... we'll have to wait for an update from Subnautica that revamps Controller support. Unfortunately, that means the UnknownWorlds devs are gonna have some work to do, and it's not small.

They'll get there, though I suspect it won't be until Jan at the earliest.

I confirm, i have the same problem; somewhen around November 2020, some update killed the controller support. I use a steam controller and i tried everything... no controller menu available in the options ... It will be fixed but we should sen a common message, a petition
