Gravity Trap
Maybe i'm an idiot and this is common knowledge but i didn't use a gravity trap until about 125 hrs of game play. Stick one out side your base and you'll never have to fish again.

Fish become obsolete after a few hours anyway. The gravity trap is a novelty at best.

Been working for me for days. I have two set up. I did set one near the "lava mountain" but i think it was destroyed. it was there one minute and gone the next. Like I said, here in the shallows they have lasted days. I keep picking fish from em. I thought it would be helpful to new players. and it was funny it took me so long to use it.

on another note, i just noticed like 4 or 5 days ago I released all these animals from my tank. Many of them are preditors from the deep. They are still around the starting shallows biome where i live.
edit, i remembered, it's a bone shark, it's attacking me! i'm going to release all kinds of stuff now and see what happens

I agree, but I still find it useful to pull sulfur out of the green brine in the Lost River.

I primarily use the trap to farm Oculi for early Bioreactor fuel, and to pull Shale Outcrops that occasionally spawn inside walls and underground that are not reachable by hand.

dumb question, but I never tried it, so I'm curious. Can grav traps be used to make hunting for stalker teeth somewhat less tedious?

In theory, yes - you could deploy them where stalkers play with metal debris, hoping that any teeth will be pulled towards it.
In practice, it's much more likely that the grav trap will snare a stalker that will then pull the trap away (they are strong enough to do that).

The easiest way to farm teeth is to breed stalkers in an ACU, release them next to your base, and give them some metal debris.

EDIT:----------

Someone must have tried this before - is it possible to farm teeth from stalkers inside an ACU?

EDIT 2:----------

Farming teeth inside an ACU seems to be impossible because metal debris can't be dropped.

this or the gravity trap snares a piece of scrap metal and the stalker tows the orb away.

Yeah, the stalkers tow the orb away. Even the regular small fish will tow it away if several of them pull in the same direction.

It works to farm stalker teeth if you breed them first, release them in an area that doesn't have any other fish to get caught in it like down near the cove tree.
They like metal, not just scrap, they'll take titanium, copper, gold, cameras, etc. but all those will get trapped by the orb so it'll be towed away over time to different locations - they have to spots each and they just transfer the metal piece from one to the other.

i've had two orbs right out side my base for days. It's right next to the drop pod. Maybe i'm in a good spot. I dropped one in the inactive lava zone and a bone shark is towing it around or one of those lizard fish things. Funny when i saw him yesterday, i thought the trap was destroyed.

I find it to be useful in the early game before setting up a base. Just toss one under Lifepod 5 and most of your eating/drinking needs are trivialized.

Never really found a good use for it in the later game. Even for Stalker Teeth farming, it's much easier to just set up a scanning room in the shallows or kelp forest and collect teeth in mass. Within a few minutes, you'll have more than you need for the entire game.

If you use a Propulsion Canon to grab fish caught in your Grav Trap, you can pretend you're a reverse Ghost Buster.

Another potential use for a grav trap late game -- if deploy one near your Prawn suit in the lava zones, it seems to grab the lava larvae and prevent them from latching on and draining the power. Not sure if this justifies carrying one down there, but it's at least something useful.

I mean... if you have the thermogenerator module for the prawn suit, the lava larvae barely make a difference imo.

Never brought my Cyclops into the Lava Zone, or the lost River for that matter. And I dock my Prawn in my Lava Base moonpool so it's never left unattended.
