If you can find the Lost River biome, finding the Inactive Lava Zone is easy -- the Lost River is fairly linear, so as long as you follow it in the direction of increasing depth, you can't miss it.

The previous two posts are pointing to locations for the Lost River biome, not the ILZ.

I did miss mine because I kept looking horizontally and the entrance was behind a jagged rock. Now I use the seamoth sonar every now and then and travel while looking at a ~ -10deg angle to horizontal.

Ok, exact instructions as follows:

Go down till you find the blood kelp forest / Koosh Zone.

Then keep going down

When you get to the Lost River (You'll know it when you see it) Go Down.

Then when you see a big glowing tree go behind it, then down.

Down a little bit more and you should gravy!

it's honestly not that hard, even the grand reef entrance isn't bad if you use the cameras while steering through the tight spots.
