Scanner Room List Changing?
Not sure if this is a bug, but my scanner room seems to always change the list of resources for which I can scan. I originally thought that this was due to the items I'm scanning for being depleted within range but it isn't so. For example, Quartz was always an option in my scanner room, yet for some reason the item disappeared from the list, however when I scanned for Metal Salvage within range, I came across quite a few pieces of quartz closer to the scanner room than the metal salvage I was picking up. Shale deposits suddenly appeared on the list one day, but when I scan for it, there isn't any within range. It just scans and the map is blank.

Items tend to disappear/reappear and I cannot quite determine what function is governing this behavior. Is this a bug? Should I report? Deconstruct/reconstruct my scanner room maybe?

Any help would be appreciated.

It's also kinda rapid. I just had 4 pages of scanning options, went out on a ruby run, came back, and now I have 2 pages of scanning options.

?!?!

hello, so do you notice in your game when you first load it the scanner room does not have much on the list? Well if you are to go out and explore a bit the chunks will load and thus more items will appear on the scanner room list no idea why but for some reason like I said the scanner room doesn't pick up anything if you have not been to the area in the current session.

kind of defeats the purpose if you have to go out for the scanner room to work properly, but I usually just cruise around in my seamoth when I start a new session just so if I need to use the scan room for resources, I can just select it on the scanner room list cause I have been to the area and the area I'm scanning has loaded.

It seems to only list things that are both within range and in the world chunks that are currently loaded. Swimming in a large circle around your base often fixes the issue, assuming the resource you want isn't actually depleted.

Edit: Ninjaed.

Makes sense that I need to first "discover" a resource before it appears on my scanner room list. But why would it disappear?

Thanks for the response. At least I know what to do to mitigate this issue, which is the reason why I bought this game to begin with -- explore. Now if I can only figure out how to KEEP the items I've already explored on the list, or at least understand why they disappear. :)

How it works (or atleast how I think it works) is when you get off the game and come back on, all of the resources (such as quarts or limestone) are unloaded, and are only reloaded again when you get in range of it. If that's the case, then the answer to this problem is to just go swim around for a little bit, and then you're scanner room should start updating.

Yea it's not that bad, it's dynamic as you move. So just go out and start picking stuff up and it'll locate more.

Trust me you don't want the game loading the entire map just so you can scan stuff.

Plus once you scan with 4 range upgrades you get too many hits anyways and it makes it harder to find them.

Ive noticed that aswell. Also i noticed if you still have at least one of the item your in need of in your inventory if you drop it outside and pick it up again it will be re-added to the list. So i basically keep at least one of each resource in a specific locker and only use it to reload the scanner list.

The scanner room will pick up some items on its own but that's very random the way it actually works is as stated above it won't detect a lot of the stuff in the area until you go out and explore in the area of the scanner. Basically figure 400m out if you make a circle with your seamoth that will cover the 400m

If you scan a resource with your hand scanner it shows up on the scanner room.
