I happen to agree with Menzagitat when he says "The last comments on that mod are not very encouraging".

Apparently the mod developers realized the effort is too big to obtain a good solution. And nobody pays them.
Subnautica developers faced a similar decision. A good multiplayer solution requires the game development to be started having multiplayer in mind. And it was not so, technically speaking.
Until this 3rd party mod would be ready, maybe the rumored expansion would also be released and that would maybe change the code of the original game too, bringing the mod to its knees once more.
Subnautica was never built for MP compatibility
