It's not just about Leviathans insta-gibbing you. It's the idea of infinite space with nothing that's kinda terrifying. Also, how the ground just seems to cut vertically down into nothingness. It might be a bit unrealistic but it gives me a kind of vertigo when I reach the edge and think about it for a minute.
I think the only time a cave gave me cause for panic was actually one that was tucked into the mountain region. I went into it and got lost, so with my dwindling power core coupled with the Reaper howls and noticing that I had already passed that same rock like 10 times already I started to get a freaked out.
THIS! My sweet lord 150% this......that Ghost Leviathan was one hell of a brown trouser moment LOL
Somehow, the Crabsquids and Warpers totally ignored me, though... I was half-way through the floor.
This has also happened to me in the Lost River at the leviathan skull, and like 4 or 5 times in the Grassy Plateus...
On my way out, it was at night, I got a bit side tracked and received this message....
Warning: Entering ecological dead zone. Adding report to databank.
I didn't think that was a good thing...and then this happened.

He came swimming right up along side of me...I thought I was dead, turned around and hauled ass.
That was the second Reaper I came in contact with, the first was on the south end of the Aurora. It came screaming head on and grabbed my Seamoth, crushing it with me inside. I did manage to get out and save myself to swim back to base...how, I have no clue. I wish had taken a screen shot of that but was to much in a panic.
But, The Dead Zone encounter has to be the most frightening to date for me.
