do leviathans respawn?

i might try to kill any leviathan i se, so i dont have to deal with it, but if they respawn i dont want to, so may someone tell me if they respawn? Thanks

I've heard they don't, but I'm still kinda noob so not sure.

I'm still working up the courage to stasis rifle and scan one lol..

They don't respawn. Any of them.
You can go with a stasis/knife combo, using stasis and a ton of toxic pods from the manatee thing, or use rodeo style with grappling arm and plenty of punching.

lol thanks everyone i would do the prawn suit version, but i dont have the grappling fragment yet, cause a ghost leviathan is guarding the wreck i need for the fragments

You should be able to shock them to death with the perimeter defense system of the seamoth, but you would need spare power cells.

You can kill them all quite easily with the stasis rifle + thermal knife (or just regular knife for the Sea Dragon since he's immune to the thermal knife). Remember to charge up the stasis rifle before you fire for much longer stun periods -- this is something a lot of people seem to overlook.

You can get in about 25 hits of the knife per stun if you are positioned right. Reapers will be killed after 4-5 rounds, Ghost Leviathans after 5-6, and Sea Dragons after 10-12 if you're using the regular knife. It only takes about 2 minutes to kill them, with some additional time for the Sea Dragons.

It is possible to kill every Leviathan from the game and permanently remove them from the world. I did this as an optional challenge on my last hardcore playthrough.

This is true (they have 5000 HP), but the Sea Dragon can't be harmed by the thermal knife. The survival knife does half the damage, so using stasis rifle + knife will take twice as long on them. And for whatever reason, it would take me slightly to kill the Ghost Leviathans, but that could just be me.

Ghosts have some weird hitboxes so taking longer to kill than a Reaper/Sea Dragon seems about right. I know about the thermal knife not damaging the Sea Dragon, but I was unaware of it doing twice as much damage as the normal one (I thought it was only 15-20% more).

Don't the Ghost leviathans just spawn when you go out of the "map" into the dead zone? Can you really make them extinct?

For the dead zone this is true. They spawn infinitely there (I think a max of spawn at once). Anywhere else though, if you kill them, they stay dead

Thats not true I killed a sea dragon with a thermal knife
