Grav trap needs some adjustment
Finally built a grav trap for the first time. Deployed it, saw it suck up all the small objects in the area, including small fish. I watched as they kind of helplessly floated around and thought "Oh neat! so this is how I can deal with those pesky exploding red fish!"

So I go to retrieve it back into my inventory - I die instantly with no warning. Hardcore game over. It didn't look deadly - it didn't kill the other animals, but it killed me. That's stupid.

The game should visually communicate the risk better. That would be better game design.

The crashfish or the sphere?

Let me see if I got this right.

You already know that the red crashfish will explode when they get near you.
You got one trapped in a gravsphere.
Then got close to it.
It exploded.
And you are surprised by this.

I miss anything?

The op may have not used it to trap a crash fish yet and he died picking up the first grav sphere.
If this is the case he may have died from the fish hitting him at a high speed.

Thank you for the laugh friend!

Aman: Yes, you missed something. The sphere was test-deployed at the starting area, just to see what it does. No "crashfish" was nearby. Something else killed me. I'm afraid to build another gravtrap to find out: Is it meant to be reusable? If so, how do I pick one up after deploying it without dying?

Pickup the stuff it grabs first, then the sphere? The sphere by itself isn't supposed to be dangerous.

This sounds like a bug. Nothing in the safe shallows should one shot you at 100% health. People do not usually suddenly die around grab spheres. Are you sure you didn't drown?

Make an in game report.

Okay, when I say "killed instantly", I mean "killed in two hits", but it happened so fast I wasn't able to react and swim away. Maybe I'll file a report.

Did it pick up any rocks or large objects because if something of decent size hit you it may have mistaken it for "fall damage" when it hit you.

Gravity, killing humans since forever

two hits, unless u were already still injured from a previous encounter, it shouldnt have happened, but it sounds like something else got u at the same time. now as far as the crash fish go, they have a limited time before they explode, listening to the sounds they makes gives u an idea how close the explosion is, now that being said if u r without a vehicle u cant out run them u have to get something imbetween them to get away, now with that being said i dont know what trigers them if its time based or distance traveled or attempted to travel like a torpedo.

either way tho u were in range of it so.... and u had it on a tether, and it can still swim around. this isnt really a bug, but i agree they shouldnt be tugging on crashfish if thats what they are doing as the actual fish may destroy the sphere itself

Probably just weird physics interaction between you and the objects stuck in the sphere. Kind of like dying in Skyrim from walking over a random pile of bones. Might just have to loot the stuff caught in it first, or maybe grab it towards you with the propulsion gun and quickly loot it before it pulls stuff with it.

Well, at least it wasn't what I thought you said.
In that case, were there any Gasopods nearby when you first set it down or went to pick it up?
Or for that matter, do you remember seeing any small yellow dots floating about it when you went near it?
Both of these (which are basically the same thing) would account for you suddenly dying after going to pick it up.

i remember there were issues about this before, but it wasnt ur gravsphere that killed u, i pick mine up with stuff in it all the time, something else got you, my guess is a stalker sandshark or a biter swarm
