Getting oxygen into base
I don't understand how it works. I've got my basic compartment on a foundation. I don't understand how I'm supposed to get oxygen inside it. I tried setting up a floating air pump and connecting pipes to the compartment, nothing happens, it won't connect to the thing. I tried making a base-attached air pump, connecting pipes up to the surface in hopes of having the pipes suck oxygen down to the pump, but no luck. I tried connecting pipes from the floating air pump down to the base-attached one, that won't happen either. I'm lost.

How do I get oxygen into my compartment? I'm pretty new to the game, sorry if it's obvious and I'm just being blind :P Thanks in advance for any answers!

The base just needs a source of power and it will generate its own oxygen.

any base structures will automatically produce oxygen (its built into the walls, its a tech thing) so long as you have power being produced for your base with solar panels, or thermal, or bio or nuke

As stated above, but you base can be used a an oxygen starting provider with the pipes you're using thanks to the external oxygen filter, to go even deeper at beginning (when you don't have any kind of vehicles or wanna save some precious copper from copper greedy seaglides) from your base.

Ok, thanks!

This is less than obvious, and really needs to be highlighted in the escape pod's ten step survival manual.

Yeah I didn't understand anything, I thought I needed oxygen inside the base before I even thought about energy :P

Agreed, I tried both a floating pump and one attached to the base :D Now I'm stuck with 15 pieces of pipe!

there is no need to do anything. bases auto-generate oxygen...

There are 2 Pumps for the Pipes. One floats on the Surface, the other gets attached to a Base. Hold the pipes in your Hand and go near the Pumps until you see the Connection. The Pipes can be extended a bit. Swim until the Pipe doesnt get any long, then place the Pipe.
Now, Oxygen should be avaiable at the end of the Pipe.

This is a wretched necro, but it's just another example of the importance of reading. The descriptions of those two types of air pumps clearly indicate what they are for. Neither is for providing oxygen to a base.
