Too many sandsharks,, any advice?
1. Are the seamoth fragments in this area?

2. How do you deal with the sharks? I scanned a mobile vehicle bay fragment and got bit by 2 of them within 3 seconds, there's an insane amount of those sharks swimming around there in groups of 2-3 swarming all the fragments. I die before I am able to scan anything.

is there some clever way to keep them away that I missed?

Yet another motivation rears its ugly head: Annoyance. You plan on going on a Sandshark killing spree after their behaviour and range is doned way down?

I agree, you can deter but why deter when you can just eliminate. It's not like your going to make them extinct.

To me, it really comes down to basic rules, if they won't leave u in peace, kill. If your just passing throught, bash and ward off.

Like Maestro said, the need of killing depend of the situation, if they dont ♥♥♥♥ whit us then soo be it.. otherwise they gonna get the D.

Not at all. I'm just saying simply that if you need to clear the area of annoyances, do it. But if your just wandering and get swarmed punch the ones that bother you and keep moving.

But you already have the tools to stop them in other ways. Again, why kill?

EDIT: Added a second quote.

Because you don't need to. You've just given your reasoning right there. You like to kill stuff. You want to be the dominant species in the ocean. Ethics are irrelevent.

EDIT: Added four sentences.

Fair enough. For some reason I was thinking there was going to be more to it than that. Oh well.

EDIT: Added quotes.

I mean, you could take a dead fish and kill someone. heck you could kill someone with sand if you do it right. Just doesnt mean you have to or need to.

(lol i know its not, but) In the wild, if you kill a larger predator, that scent will draw other predators to that spot to eat what they can. you try killing those, that scent will bring more. Honestly there is almost no way you could survive in that sort of situation.

Whatever happened to using the Stasis Rifle?

Could be easier to get than things like the Mobile Vehicle Bay and Seamoth fragments at this point, since the Sandshark population seems to vary a lot more than the Boneshark population of the Underwater Islands does. There have been times I've found almost none near the UI wreck with the Stasis Rifle in it. Nowhere near the swarms upon swarms of sandsharks you usually find near the Lifepod 17 wreck.

New players are screwed though. You're not going to take your precious handful of batteries and just launch off in a random direction for half a day's travel in hopes of finding a random wreck and technology to fend off 6 Sandsharks at once. Ultimately they've got to find that predator aggressiveness / population balance, because from my seat, they haven't really gotten very close in any of the updates they've tried in the last year.

Or, if they're gonna leave Sandsharks as such a "swarm" predator, then they NEED a distraction mechanic like the Stalkers or the light-sensitive predators. As of now once one decides to attack you, literally your only defenses are incapacitate the shark (hard, requires mid-game or later tech) or leave the area (not conducive to playing the game, since the sharks "camp" valuable things so hard and in large numbers, virtually all the time).

Whatever happened to dodging attacks and being sneaky? And just being perceptive, for that matter? Sandsharks may be in a lot of places but they aren't everywhere.
I agree with zemecton, its really not that hard to dodge sandsharks, even when theres large groups.

It's not difficult to dodge one or two Sandsharks. It's impossible to scan a fragment without dying when there are 4 or 5 circling behind and above you while you track and avoid the 3 or 4 you can see at one time. There's a point - all too frequently encountered, unfortunately - where all the dodging in the world can't help you when there are SO many sharks around. Never mind the slow, continual loss of HP to biters while you're worried about the sharks. The Plateau is BRUTAL now, in all seriousness, and not suited to be one of the first places expanded into in early game the way it is balanced at present. At least, if you want to go near the wrecks. Oh, wait, all there is besides wrecks is Limestone (easily sourced in safer places) and drillable nodes for a vehicle you don't have yet. Never mind.

Zem's point about distribution is right, too, but also not always helpful, especially not when looking for those Seamoth fragments often scattered around the outside of wrecks. The Sandsharks do move around more than most predators (which is why there are always so many in the Shallows, unfortunately), so they often will be gone if you take a break and come back to a given spot.

Unfortunately, that helped when looking for (now gone) Sandstone nodes in the bloodgrass, or random fragments (now also gone). It does not help with wrecks because THOSE Sandsharks are leashed better. If you see 7 Sandsharks around a large wreck and come back the next day... there will still be 7. And they will ALL swim directly up your butt the second you get close to anything. Dodge that.
