This vs Below Zero?
Not really interested in the politics of why they did it or if sub zero should be DLC or not.

I am in the mood for a survival game and came looking as i heard about this game before.

I see it's not only out of EA, but there is now a sequel?

Given the devs clearly had experience making this game, how "early" does Below Zero feel and what content will it have that the original won't?

Given the fact I just want to sand box with resource gathering and base building, story content / unfinished lore in the sequel is not much of a detraction.

Should I get this or buy into the EA of the sequel?

I only played BZ a little bit, but it does feel unfinished, as it should being in EA still.

This game is complete, and well worth the price. I easily recommend it over the unfinished sequel.

Yeah based on the store page descriptions it also looks like the story is actually an interesting and worthwhile part of the game and not just a "tacked on top of existing sandbox" type of thing, bought this and will keep an eye on the sequel.

Buy Subnautica first and then Below zero when it releases. In below zero there is not much to see right now. Very basic flora and fauna and few story hours.

Below Zero isn't even out yet. It looks promising, but right now, if you want a complete experience, the original one is the way to go.

Below Zero is very early in it's early access so there isn't that much that's in a finished state to play right now.

I have enjoyed what i've played of Below Zero so far but the original Subnautica is a finished game that will give you a far longer and more enjoyable experience so get that one if you only want to buy one of them.
I have faith that Below Zero will end up being a great game like the original Subnautica but in it's current state.. it's nowhere near finished and it cannot provide the same experience the original Subnautica does.. so buy it only if you're willing to accept that.

It's definitely much more fleshed out and actually interesting and not just some sh*tty excuse plot.

Below Zero has under an hour of playable content right now, I suggest holding off unless you wanna support the devs. Which you should. But still.

play both, not below yet tho as it is in early access. just remember in subnautiuca you are alone and surviving an unknown world. below you are a explorer and reasercher and not exacty alone you have a sister. but also same world but later in the story.

Get Subnautica. Play it on hardcore. Look up NO information. Take in the whole game and embrace the fear of the unknown. I did, without a single death and believe me I WANT Below Zero when it's done.

...But not a moment before.

Original Subnautica environment is very nice. Seamoth and Cyclops are more fun than Seatruck.
It's probably individual but cold dark blue sea cannot compare to the beauty of Safe Shallows, Lava Zone...

The original Subnautica goal is to cure yourself and leave the planet. Im waiting for release of Below Zero but the plot and protagonists were boring year ago. But I give it a try ;)

I really love both but the original is significantly better in my opinion. To use a very overused expression it has much greater immersion and atmosphere. It also has a much bigger map and better vehicles. I also think it was a big mistake to have such a vast area of the world map above ground, the glacial basin. I would have preferred a couple more biomes underwater. Below Zero is still a great game but yeah the first is vastly superior in every way, except perhaps performance.
