Multiplayer question?
I haven't played the game yet, so I'll definitely be Single Player for quite a while before I consider using the mod, but I was wondering if anyone could answer something for me.

My version of the game was given for free through Epic Games during a promotion in like Decemeber, but my friends have the game through Steam. If I install the Multiplayer mod, will we still be able to connect to each other or will there some technical hurdles?

I was thinking about starting the game for the first time today, but I'm not a fan of Epic Games launcher, so if I can't eventually play with my friends or earn Achievements, maybe I'll just ignore it and wait until the game goes on sale really cheap through Steam, and get it then.

There is a way to put a game on epic onto steam (though I admit I'm a little iffy on the details of how that works). But there's been enough people asking about it that it shouldn't be hard to find one with the search box.

Otherwise, it's on sale as of right now if that's just easier.

I just want to play multiplayer with my friends, and I was wondering if Epic Games Launcher and Steam were considered "different" versions of the game, as far as connection issues are concerned.

I have been trying to add Subnautica to my Steam library though, but it doesn't seem possible. I only care about the multiplayer part, though.

It's not like consoles where it becomes a complicated process. Both of the games are exactly the same, only difference is where it is bought from. Since it is unofficial multiplayer based on a P2P connection, there are no servers, just players. This makes things easy. If the game were on Steam servers it would be hard, if it were Epic servers, it would be hard. Since it isn't on either, it's just plug-n-play as far as the program is concerned.

i can confirm that the nitrox mod allows 2 players with 1 from steam and 1 from epic to play together.
No additional technical issues that aren't already there by using the mod in the first place.
Also, no need to add subnautica to steam for that.People only do that out of lazyness and/or because they do not want to use epic launcher

People don't use the search engine they get yelled at.

It's a no win situation on Steam forums.
