Switch Pro Controller Support?
I'm on a MacBook Pro so I need to play with a gamepad. The only one I have is a Switch Pro Controller. I can't get it to work at all, I've tried manually remapping the control sticks but I've had no luck so far. Does anyone else have any suggestions for getting my Pro Controller to work?

Have you tried using the Steam Controller Configuration Tool?

If you haven't, just open up Big Picture mode, go to settings, then Controller Settings, and check the box next to "Switch Pro Configuration Support". Exit out of Big Picture mode (the configuration will be saved and carry over to the desktop version of Steam as well), launch Subnautica and then go to the game's options and select "XBox 360" for the controller button layout and you should be good to go.

No dice, the left stick works but it sees the right stick as L1 no matter what input I give it

I'm having the same issue on a MacBook Pro, let me know if you find a solution. I've tried remapping the controller in-game but the buttons are all messed up. When I try to press A on my controller, the game identifies it as "joystick button 18", just to give an example.

Yeah, the controller support is pretty busted. I can either get the buttons to work, or the stick to work by disabling or enabling controller configuration respectively, but not both at the same time.

I ended up installing it on bootcamp, where even there I went through a lot of frustration with the input misbehaving before something happened and it started to work.

I can confirm that as far as I can tell, controller support is completely broken on my (intel) iMac. Using an XBox X controller, the left stick only looks in one direction and the other mappings are all hosed up. Using a Steam Controller, the A/B/X/Y buttons don't do anything at all and I can't select "Play" to launch the game.

Also, looks like this was first reported in 2016, so I wouldn't hold your breath for a fix.
