What is the max depth ?
I just got the game today. Watched through a tutorial, but the guy never went max depth I dont think. He went around 700 meters down or so where the alien research base is, but he said there were spots you could go "way deeper" and there were goodies you could find down there. I am not talking about the ...not sure what you officially call it....where the map just ends in blackness when you go over a cliff and you just sink endlessly, then those massive glowing leviathians appear and try to either kill you or push you back up. Not talking about that spot at all, but other spots. If there is any...and if so, what is their depths? Hence the question. I love exploring!

The max depth in the areas is around 1400 to 1500 meters, but if you go off the edge of the void you go down 8000 meters until you get warped back to the coordinates 0,0,0

And o,o,o is the coordinates for the initial life pod?

Also, roughly how big is the ocean's bottom as size of a map aprox? Also, is there any other island other than the one that you go to that has the (spoil not added). You probably know what structure I am referring to on that island. is there any other island you can go to? I only saw the one covered in the tutorial.

There is 1 other island.

there are two above water isles. the one north (of your position) you know about. there is another south. they both can be located by standing on top of your lifepod and looking for a cloud.

The max playable deep is about 1800 meters, the map itself it's about 4000 by 4000 meters (quite small actually).

TC already watched videos up to the alien bases... I don't think spoilers are an issue.

I am just curious on how deep one can go without a sub so i dont kill myself, or how big the map is so i dont accidently venture into a more dangeriuous biom than the starter one before I am properly prepared

Paradoxically, there is no limit to how deep you can go without a sub by free diving or with the seaglide.
The only limit is your oxygen supply. Your rate of oxygen consumption increases at 100 m and again at 200 m but after that it stays the same. You can get a rebreather mask that slows rate of oxygen depletion that is helpful for deeper dives.

Max for subs is: Seamoth 900 m, Prawn and Cyclops 1700 m. (with upgrades) But you can get out and swim below that if you like and you will not get crushed or get the bends.

Oh cool. I just started today and have just and hr into it. What is so far the challenge is knowing what resources are needed for certain things....and where to find those resources

Bit of a nitpick.
You don't get warped to 0,0,0. You get warped to a point that is somewhere close the middle of the map, somewhat above the water level (so you don't turn up inside anything) and without any vehicle you were in.
The lifepod is not the middle of the map. It's location is randomly placed somewhere in the area of the safe shallows on every new game start.

As to other islands. Yeah, like others have said. But if you explore the caves of the one you have found you can find a shortcut, of a sort, that will take you to the other island.

Next time you test it, bring a bigger air tank. Like the one you can find built into a cyclops.

It always amuses me to see someone correct someone else, but do so with the wrong answer.
