Is Below Zero a Free update?
A lot of people are treating it as an expansion and I REALLY hope that it isn't but wasnt able to find anything about it. Their site just mentions its coming soon. Please tell me this is a fully free update. Because I'm not paying money for an expansion for an Early Access game.

Well thats a strange comment, because I think the majority of players bought subnautica as early access...I cant wait to purchase early access for Below Zero as well.

Early access? 1.0 has been released months ago.

Because it is an expansion (the old style standalone expansion, not a DLC), and not a Subnautica 2.

It's a completely standalone expansion. You will not require Subnautica to play it. It will have its own game directory, own executable, own data files.

Subnautica isn't in Early Access anymore.

Ok, are you confused about the idea that most of us owned the game long before it came out of EA or are you confused at the idea of them putting the next one into EA?

Not exactly. Like for example "Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War - Soulstorm" or "Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade" weren't called Dawn of War II or Dawn of War III. They are standalone expansions that don't require the main game "Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War", and Dawn of War II came as a new game some time after them. "Subnautica: Below Zero" will be something similar, while Subnautica 2 could be developed/released some 5 - 10 years later just fine.

No, thats why its not 2. Its a stand alone that will be shorter than Subnautica.

Thus one can call it an expansion since it is in the same world just in a different part with a different character.

No, you cant call it an expansion offically because it is sold seperately and it will be possible for people who never heard of Subnautica before to play it, before relaizing there is another game.

Why is there so much push to basterdize the meanings of words in gaming communities????
Stand Alone is not an expansion or a proper sequel.
Modders are not the same thing as Cheaters, and Beta is now a marketing scam not a test phase.

The devs announced Sub Zero as a "stand alone expansion". That means it will have a price tag attached. For how much is anyone's guess as there is currently no pre-order or early access available on Steam.

Buy it, don't buy it... totally an individual perogative. But spare us your reasons because nobody cares.

Since when are you playing games? "Dawn of War - Soulstorm" or "Dawn of War - Dark Crusade" weren't called sequels. They weren't also called "Dawn of War 2" and "Dawn of War 3", though they don't require having "Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War" to play them - they are standalone expansions. "Dawn of War II - Retribution" and "Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising" aren't called sequels to "Dawn of War II", but standalone expansions which also don't require "Dawn of War II" installed. They weren't called "Dawn of War 5" and "Dawn of War 6", as also "Dawn of War II" wasn't called "Dawn of War 4".

Someone already did what you are accusing Subnautica trying to do with its expansion. It isn't trying to "basterdize the meanings of words in gaming communities", It's only that you didn't know something like this already has existed, maybe because you haven't been in "gaming community" for long enough.
