What is the submarine good for?

It looks great and it was fun to put it together but it is very difficult to drive, you can't see where you go and crash all the time. Will I need it later for something special?

Truthfully, there is no place that you cannot go with the Seamoth and Prawn. The cyclops is helpful for transporting them to and from locations when you don't want to "walk" in the prawn, and you can also build lots of storage lockers in the lower section to store lots of materials when mining with the prawn.

Are you talking about the big one, the Cyclops? If so, I will say you don't necessarily need it for a while. There's a vehicle called the Prawn Suit, which you can take to the deepest of the oceans, so you really do not need the Cyclops for deep exploration.
However, you do need the Cyclops to craft something in the very end of the game, so it is good to have it around...

You can build a ton of lockers, build planters to get food and water, get replicators, charge and repair your vehicles, even a bed to skip the night (I hate moving at night) etc. It's pretty much a mobile base.
The cyclops has 3 different cameras, which help you navegate pretty easily, even easier with the sonar upgrade.
Its not really mandatory, but it surely gave me some peace of mind to have it near me.

Fully upgraded, it's pretty much the perfect mobile base. Once you get the hang of it, you can bring your full manufacturing/harvesting operation almost anywhere. The biggest thing is getting used to it's length, once you've got that down, it's a lot easier to navigate.

About the prawn got an "upgrade" for that in the space ship but still dont have the original basic recipe. tips?

Nor do I have a special drill or tool for large mineral deposits yet.

I found it weird to find an upgrade before the original recipe, I hope it is stored somewhere.

hmm I wonder what part I am missing because I explored all the Aurora except for one room with a password that I dont know.

You have too scan all the actual prawn suits in the prawn suit hangar inside Aurora to unlock it as a recipe, the one that is on fire before the crew quarters.

The cyclops is a mobile base. You can put plants for food on it, has lockers, you can add a battery charger, fabricator, the works. It basically saves you trips all the way back to wherever you have a base/bases and lets you carry a lot more loot back and forth.
