Subnautica has a very interesting plot, survival gameplay with crafting mechanic. The use of vehicles and tools to explore the vast ocean world and the construction of various bases utilising raw materials makes the game highly enjoyable. However as with every survival game, you must take care with enemies (2 seamoths deatroyed by Leviathans within 24hrs. Sad reacts only).
Of the games I've played, Subnautica probably fits this description the most. Thus, I would definitely suggest giving it a try!
(Another game you may consider trying is No Man's Sky, but I personally liked it less for a number of reasons.)
As I don't work in marine industry, it's hard for me to tell
But at least, it is another planet's ocean, so all creatures there are different from Earth's.
First time through Subnautica probably took 20 hours, so they are similar there, but I never felt like going back and re-playing Solus once I got to the end. Solus is way more linear, there are only a handful of things in Subnautica that have to happen in order if you want to get to the end of the game. There's the building aspect of Subnautica that's not in Solus. The world of Subnautica is just far more beautiful and begs to be explored just for the fun of exploring.
Played both. I can recall Subnaughtica because it was memorable. I can't recall The Solace Project for the exact opposite reason.
Gonna shorten the names:
Sub = Subnautica
TSP = The Solace Project
I had to litterally look up TSP to remember what it was about. After seeing the ending, the memories came back to me. TSP is definitely inappropriately catagorized by genre. It's also linear with no freedom.
Sub is linear but you have plenty of freedom to explore. Actually you have a vast amount of freedom to go whereever you want limited only by the machines you can build which shouldn't take you forever to unlock. After you complete the main objective you are completely free to continue playing unless you want to leave the planet. It certainly is big on exploration and building. The further you go the bigger the dangers are met. Lore is tucked away, most in your path but some beyond that. begin exposed 360 degrees with alien sounds all around was more tense for me than the vast emptiness of TSP.
TSP you don't get to do a lot of anything. Sub has you doing a fair bit.
I'd recommend Sub over TSP any day.
