Why do Adult Ghost Leviathans live in the void.
As far as I know there is barely any fu*king food down there.

Do they partake in cannibalism but then again what attracted them there in the first place?

Why are they there lorewise?

Lorewise they filterfeed there and are aggresive due to the low amount of food source because the Kharar wiped it out
Gameplay wise it's to keep you inside the playable map.

Well the Lore doesnt make sense since they actually should also die to the Kharar infection .

The only reason any creatures are alive on the planet is because some peepers are carrying the captive Emperor Leviathans enzymes and spreading it, which temporarily neutralizes the infection. Peepers never travel to the void though so I dunno, maybe it travels through the current or something.

There could be peeper vents in the void. We don’t know. Honestly the adult ghosties are huge and wouldn’t work in most areas of the playable map.

Perhaps there are other smaller fish not yet discovered that migrate from the cooler polar region towards the warmer waters, much like sardines do on our planet, then get trapped by the convergence of the warmer currents and are hunted by the adults far away? Perhaps there is another type of creature similar to the dolphin that uses sonar and work well with the adult ghost leviathans in such circumstances and will be unveiled in the upcoming dlc?

maybe the ghosts keep themselves out of the disease's way by being so isolated, no contact or near-contact with infected fish, plankton dont seem to be affected as filter feeders seem abundant, and all disease has it's limits, cant keep swimming forever

To be fair, we only get access to a tiny part of the planet, i am sure parts of our ocean could be classified as void, but we know if you keep going there is land etc past that. So maybe the leviathans can go elsewhere to feed if they needed too.

Consider that the ghost leviathans only travel to the void slowly as they mature, so as juveniles they are passing through the other biomes. They have probably built up sufficient stores of enzyme 42 to survive long enough to spawn their eggs before dying. Also note that, perhaps due to their long lifespan and the sheer accumulation of enzyme 42 in their systems, no leviathan organism is visibly infected. It may well take a lot longer for the disease to progress through them even once their reserves are depleted, in the void or otherwise.

The thing to remember that Subnautica takes place within a volcanic crater that has risen up from the ocean floor. So although there appears to be nothing out there, there must be an ocean floor eventually but for the sake of the game it isn't there. Since the ghost levaithans are common to the deepest parts of the ocean it would make sense that they'd be ideally suited to the greater depths found beyond the crater edge.
