If I don't take Cuddlefish out of containment, can I bring him with me on Neptune?
I was looking up a video on something I was unsure about and came across a video about not being able to pickup the cuddlefish and take it with you once you jet off.

I am stupid attached to this cute sucker and was wondering if I don't set him free, but instead put him in my inventory when I decide to leave, will that allow me to take him with me? Or should I just set him free and have to suffer through the cute little farewell?

If you release him, he will follow you around. ;-)
You can also tell him/her to stay in the area.

My buddy followed me around and I forgot about that and went very deep.
After that I haven't seen him again. :-(

Yes, but once released you can never put the cuddle fish (or any alien containment hatched creature) back into your inventory again.

So, to answer OP

Yes, you can do that.

The only downside is that you won't be able to really play with the cuddle fish and see all those adorable animations until you've released the little guy into open waters.

I don't know if you know it or not but there are five cuddlefish eggs in the game. But yes if you want to take him with you on the rocket you can you just cannot take him out of containment until then. Once you release him into the wild outside of your face you're not supposed to be able to pick him back up. And if you do this make sure you right click and tell him to stop follow. Even though he has more help than any other creature in the game he can die and he can glitch into the map

I think I have 4 eggs, so I'm contemplating releasing 2 and taking 2 from the tank with me. At least they'll have a friend? Why am I so emotional over a virtual fish?

Whenever I get something like that for PoulpyFrench for Octopus = Poulpe
, I find a horrible way to kill him, it puts things back in place right away.
